Default Rear Hatch Glass

Cant upload pic over dumb phone, but almost every car I see has the problem with the trim around the bottom of the glass coming off and seeing the adhesive on the glass. They seem to never come all the way off just hanging on enough to be a real eye sore even on a well taken care of car. How hard would it be to remove and reinstall ?? Or, what would be the outcome if you was to remove it completely ?? Its a real PITA to look over a nice car only to end up here. Any help?

You'd have to pull the glass and install a new seal, prob not worth it unless a glass installer puts it in

I've never had this problem. I don't see it on to many cars either.

Agreed. This isn't common in my experience either, and hasn't ever happened to any of mine. I sometimes see examples that have some glue oozing out from the edges of the trim, but you can remove it with a razor blade and some adhesive remover. This sometimes happens around the windshield as well. The only common problem I've seen regarding the trim is fading or minor cracking on the corner - the fading is much worse on the '01+ cars as they received a non-glossy trim that just doesn't hold up as well as the older versions.

What if you scrap as much of that gunk off then use a clear silicon to hold it down?

Well it is top of the list to do when the weather starts to change. Just in a spot or two the trim has slipped off quite a bit and as much as I will hate to work it back up I am going to try. Maybe its a cold weather problem? Ive seen quite a few cars around here with the same problem and some a lot worse than mine.

I just had new rear glass installed in my Camaro. That rubber trim piece is discontinued from GM. My glass guy said I got the last GM one from his supplier. So check around

Just got 2 of these a week ago. You have to get them from a vintage GM part division now.

It took a bit to find.
