Intense Orange LED Foglights & DRLs
#41
To InfiniteReality, I purchased some led fog light bulbs, 880, thru Ebay. I installed them on a Dodge ram truck I also have, same size 880 bulbs. The fog lights are pure white. Look fantastic. Some other poster on the LS1 Tech forum originally discovered these. I ordered two more sets for both T/A's. Regarding the Trans am low beam headlights, your photos show they are white. Did you use LED, HID, HIR ? Can you please explain ?
I have the LMC truck lights on both Trans Ams. I also ordered one set of the 9012 bulbs, which it appears many Trans Am owners use. They haven't arrived yet. However, I am quite find of the pure white color.

On a side note I've tried and still have LMC housings. They are horrible for beam pattern and lots of glare, couldn't wait to get rid of them. I'm fixing to retrofit some projectors in them so hopefully that'll go smooth

Thank you for the information. I have never heard of the Bosch option that you use. Can you tell me what specific model or part numbers the Bosch headlight housing are, and where you got them from ?

The part number is 0301305601 for the ones I got. I've tried EVERY single variation of H4 bulbs in them to cut down on the glare. I also added vinyl along the bottom of the housing to help with that too. I've tried every type of non-sealed beam housings for our cars....Eurolights, Bosch, LMC and Bosch has the best cutoff. They also are H4 so you can run quad lights and still retain your high beams.

I've ordered all the parts in hopes I can retrofit my old LMC lights with projectors. I think it's feasible, but won't know for sure until I get my hands dirty. LMC may be useful after all!

ok
Ok. I followed the ebay link. The light have 2 wires and 3 prongs. How would these bosch lights be wired, for led or hid ?...........................]The part number is 0301305601 for the ones I got. I see why you ask.... The thing with 2 wires is called a "city light" and is a 194 socket. I think it's a European legality thing, best I could tell. I just removed socket and pulled the bulb. Could just plug the hole as well.
3 prong harness is for the actual lights. +12v high, +12v low and ground

I'd recommend instead of spending money on the bulbs, spend a little bit more and get some real fog lights. This is what I have now. I've recently swapped the white version out for an orange chrome version. It's awesome.

They're actually about the same length, 880's are pretty long bulbs to begin with. I wouldn't expect any melting though.

Sorry I misunderstood, too many links, lol. I'm sure they have to fit closer to the lens, but when I wash it I see no discoloration or melting going on. As you probably know, the stock 3157 bulbs will eventually melt the housings....or has done so on both T/A's I've owned. I'd be willing to bet this won't melt anything, worse case is it'll be equal to having a 3157 in it. I put new signals when I put the new bulbs and after 10 months or so, still look brand new and I daily drive the car.
These are the best orange color you can ask for. I disabled the DRL on my old Firehawk because they weren't orange enough, but this car I'll definitely leave them enabled since I can have pure orange.

Ok, I tried installing the 9012 lights for the low beam LMC headlight. This is not a simple direct replacement. The 90 degree turn on the bulb fixture itself does not have enough room to plug the connecter harness. I am working on using wiring connectors directly to the 9012 pin, then seal the opening with some sealant. Have not done it yet, but in theory its done. The other LED 9006 bulbs arrived today. I will see if they fit. May require some slight grinding.

Thanks to InfiniteReality for the Link!
Got my LED DRL installed, big improvement.
Still need the 194's bulbs for the corners but for now I'm very satisfied even though my Hazards don't work with the Flasher I bought 😒
