Trans Am LED Fog Light Install (Morimoto Knockoffs)

Honestly I didn't pay attention if mine were glass or plastic. But they're plenty dark on their own since the internals are black. Hindsight is I kind of wished I'd gotten chrome ones since I have a white car. Just to keep them more stock looking, but when I originally decided to try it the chrome were more expensive and since I wasn't positive it could be done I went with the cheapest. I do have black accents and CETA though so it kind of matches.

This was a fun project, it took a little longer than anticipated but ultimately worked out how I wanted it to. I'm really happy with the light output, and I'll be really satisfied if these lights dont end up dying on me within a couple of years.
I wanted these to use as driving lights for when I'm put putting around NYC and on well lit parkways so I don't need to have the air brakes AKA headlights up . The funny thing is last night as I was aiming them, I stopped at a light next to a cop as he was getting out of his car and he told me to put my headlights on
They are NOT a replacement for headlights, but they are pretty damn close with regards to how far they throw the beam (I have mine aimed just under my headlight beam).
Maybe I'll take them out and deburr/ lay some paint on it all sometime soon, I rushed this because I had narrow windows of time to work on them so they aren't the prettiest right now. Pics:
I had to do some tweaking with how the stock bracket + my fabbed brackets were bent, but in the end they adjust like OEM. There isn't a lot of clearance behind the stock bracket (Hence why they're bent far forward stock) so keep that in mind if you rig something like this up.

I believe these would work for a Formula bumper if anyone was wanting some. VIP has a write-up on his install of the Morimoto versions of them.

Came across these that are similar to the originals but with a white halo in case anyone liked that kind of thing. According to the pictures the heat sink looks like my OP and installation is straight forward.

This won't be everyone's taste but finding these finally pushed me over the edge to get some chrome fogs.

I'll update the OP when I get them in and installed.

My chrome/orange ones came in Friday and got them swapped out Sunday when I had some time.
There was a few differences between these and the ones from my original post...
- While the heat sinks were similar and knew they'd work, I did have to get some more spacers since the location where I had to drill the hole was further in. Drilled and tapped the hole like before, added some blue loc-tite and put them together.
- The pigtail connector on the back of the light was longer which was nice since it made them easier to connect. Still plugs up like the original ones.
- My lights are actually upside down, least according to the DOT info on the lens. Luckily I plugged them into my power supply before installing so I caught it. The lettering on both fogs is on the bottom with the pigmail on the top.
- While they're WAY brighter than OEM, have a nice cutoff, they're not quite as bright as the white ones. I don't really mind since I like being different and will be more useful than white when it's bad weather or foggy
- I really like the chrome ones, it reflects the light so it looks more like a regular fog light where as the black one just had 3 bars that would illuminate.
The orange matches my running lights/signals perfectly. I understand people may not like the orange, it's not for everyone. Yes I'm running quad lights with 4 lows and 4 highs. The vinyl you see on the bottom of the headlights was purposely put on there to cut down on the glare of using HIDs in the Bosch reflector housings.
Sorry for the cell phone pictures, I find I take more pictures with it than if I had my DSLR in my shop.

Reminds me, I need to get some translucent orange vinyl for my illuminated bird.

Ok Ok... You convinced me...You can send me the old ones
I really need to order a plate insert so i can do the bird. I think i like it white though on yours. Can you find some orange halloween saran wrap or something for a cheap test?

Illuminated front plate is a must for any TA, IMO. Translucent vinyl is pretty cheap, I use to have some laying around with all my rolls of vinyl. I kind of like it white, but the LEDs have a slight purple/blue hue to them and when compared to my 5000K HIDs, which are pure white, they don't quite match and always bugged me.

Highly recommend it, white or orange! I'm really loving these orange fogs than I expected to... It's kind of weird to see the orange even with my quad headlights.
Found my translucent orange vinyl last night, this weekend I'll apply it on top of my LED boards and see how it looks. I've been meaning to build my own LED board for the illuminated bird, so with this test I'll see if orange looks good or not.
