I recently tried replacing the stock 194 license plate bulb for a LED that I bought off Amazon, but it was too bulky for the stock housing.

Besides installing an LED strip, can anyone send me a link to a 194 LED bulb that will fit the stock housing without modification?

If such bulb does not exist, what/how modification did you do to the housing in order to make the new bulb fit.

I have a 98 trans am.

I tried those Amazon 194 bulbs and they didn't fit either. I have sone Philips 194s that do fit, but the are forward firing. They do illuminate well though. They have done focused ones but I'm not sure of size difference.

Had the same thing so I dremeled out the plastic hump and it fit fine. Just covered with some electrical tape to keep the water out but it's covered by the bumper anyway so it shouldn't be a problem.

Over the years I have tried several things to get good light from that socket with leds, I have one that works but the light output isn't the best, had a led strip once but it lit up the ground and I found it was a waste so I took it off, due to the angle of the socket and domed cover not much you can do with stock setup unless you modify things, IMHO.

Found these on Amazon and it worked. Not as bright as stock, but pure white, which is the look I wanted. No modification to housing was required.

got mine off of superbrightleds.com and took a dremel and hollowed out the inside of the housing a little bit

I picked up one of these just to see if it would fit. It does fit. It's as bright as it's going to get based on the angle of the bulb in the plastic holder.

I picked up at walmart for about $9.
