Thoughts
So I've been on the fence on how I should approach my car when it comes to detailing, as of lately it has been neglected. The car is not garaged and sits out all the time in the Florida sun. There is no clear coat peeling and the car looks and shines great when its washed up. Going forward I'm deciding on what would be the most time and cost effective way to maintain it until it gets its garage. I wash it twice a month. Without getting too deep into paint corrections and whatnot, would it be advised to just keep some wax on there just for protection.
You can also go through the Ask a Detailer thread, it's long but there are SEVERAL suggestions in there and tons of good info.
If you are looking for items available at your local auto parts store then consider Meguiar's.
You can do this for a quick detail
1. Wash
2. Clay
3. Cleaner Wax - I would recommend white wax. It can be used on all colors. This will clean the paint, polish the paint and leave protection behind. It won't last that long but it can be done 3-4 times a year.
4. Maintain - use a spray wax such as Meguiar's ultimate quik wax to maintain and boost the wax until your next waxing session. Can be used after ever wash or every other wash.
If you want to get into a little more
1. Wash
2. Clay
3. Polish - Meguiar's ultimate polish is a paint cleaner. This is optional. It will clean the paint as well as impart gloss onto the paint. You could even compound by hand if you needed to using Ultimate Compound.
4. Seal - Meguiar's Ultimate Wax is a sealant as it is a synthetic product. Should last you 4-6 months with a proper maintenance regiment.
5. Maintain - Same as up above
I would recommend you wash it weekly to help with limiting the amount of surface contaminants on the paint.
I assume you are going to be doing this by hand.
