Default Headlight Seal

Not sure if this is the Best Sub-forum to post this but.........

I cleaned up the headlights on my 1998 Z28 and the rubber seal that goes around the outside came off and I'm looking for ideas on how to remove the old crusty double sided tape from them so I can clean them up and put them back on.
I cannot find New OEM type seals and am currently using aftermarket weather seal material and am not happy with it. Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried soaking the old seals in water for a long period? That might loosen the old adhesive enough that you could pull off the chunky foam and then use adhesive remover/acetone/etc. to remove whatever residue is left on the mating surface.

^id try that...

Worse case scenario, buy some cheap depo lights ~$100. A fresh set of lenses along with the new seals really brings the front end back to life. It's unfortunate that they designed these cars in a way that the seal is so visible.

I let them sit in soapy water for 3 days and no go.

How about something like Goo-Gone? Not sure if it would discolor the rubber though.

Well I'm quite sure that soaking it in 3M adhesive remover or Acetone would do the job, but I don't know what sort of damage it would do to the rubber. It would be fine for simply removing any residue by wiping down the mating surface, but the visible areas of rubber may be significantly discolored from soaking all of it in such.

wow, so I sprayed it with goo gone last night and left it sit in the sink in the garage and it distorted the rubber a lot, might still be usable but the double sided tape still won't come off.
