Default Fender Gap

Does anyone have a gap between the rear quarter panel and the rear bumper running from where the taillight panel and rear quarter meet side by sidel to around the marker light between the bottom of the tailight panel/rear quarter and the top of the rear bumper? Mine isn't that big, probably around a quarter of an inch, but it drives me crazy! It is on both sides, and I have tried correcting it by taking off the bumper and putting it back on, pushing up on those areas as it is bolted on, and have had no success. Any suggestions?

Heat gun and a steady hand. Living in Kentucky, you have hot summers. The fiberglass warps in the heat. Using a VERY STEADY hand, you can push it back into place. Do not overheat the bumper, though, or it wil completely warp. I used a wood block and had a friend hold the gun over the top until it came back into shape. Then I held the bl;ock there until the bumper was cool to the touch. Believe it or not, this is easier to do at dusk. The night air speeds up the cooling.

Here are some pics of the problem. It looks like the tailpanel is preventing the bumper from sliding up all the way as the bumper hits that panel...

That's a pretty common thing with f-bodies.

All told, the whole job took about two hours. I did it very unscientifically.

"Is it moving?"
"No."
"Is it moving?"
"No."
"Is it moving?"
"Yes."
"Shut the gun off."
