Default 1998-02 VFN Sunoco Style Hood

So I just finally received my 98-2002 sunoco style bolt on hood without center line! It was quite a process (not common) just don't let your gf order it for you for Christmas... Anyways it came with a couple scratches talked to VFN most likely the delivers/shippers who messed it up. But oh well Ill end up painting it later on.

Had some quick questions! Read the instructions given to install this. Anyone who's bought & installed this hood on a 98-02 Camaro have any advice? I know they highly recommend not to use the stock struts & get lighter hood struts (did not know that ahead of time) now should I go ahead & order some if so who/where to order from. Or I've seen that people just use one stock one for it? Would I be safe to just use one stock one or just I definitely just buy who lighter struts? Anything else I should buy?

Thanks!

You can buy the hood struts right from VFN.

Got it installed! Couldn't be more happy with it/the look. Still need some fitment adjusting. The back of the hood closest to the windshield sticks up a little bit so I think I need to drill holes for the placement. Then I think I need to raise the levelers because it kind of dips low in the front. Ill get it painted eventually but not in a hurry. What you guys think?

VFN for the win! Just buy the struts from them as well.... and notching the hinge hole will bring down the rear area. Youll be surprised at how much of a notch it will take! VFN says to drill the holes out to 3/8 I believe but Im pretty sure you will need a bigger hole. I recently used a Dremel to open mine up.

Yep couldn't be happier with it! Right now I just have one stock strut & it works fine. If anything when I get the hood painted Ill buy some of theirs. But yea I have to notch the hinge holes because the back of the hood is raised

The stock single hood struts creates cracks. Ive noticed my ultra z hood going bad. Im probably gonna get one of these in the near future.

Are you using both or just one? I read if you use both your stock yea its going to crack it. But one stock one is fine. People said they've been using one stock for years

Im using one stock strut unless my hood is crappy hood but its a Trufiber Ultra Z had it for years till I finally realized theres some cracks underneath the hood.

Hmm interesting. When I get the hood painted Ill switch over to different ones but I haven't heard anyone having problems with one stock strut for VFN. I'd probably say its just the quality of Trufiber vs VFN

Got mine last summer. I've just been using a single strut. When i shut it i just make sure i put more pressure on the side with the strut and avoid letting it flex. Mine needed adjusting of the fenders(pretty easy) and the hinges and moving the hood latch up a shade so the hood didn't sit down so low up front. i spent an hour or two adjusting. I'm picky so i took a lot of time
