Cleaning the block What is a good product to use for cleaning a engine block? Not the inside of the block but the outside of it, I was told oven cleaner works good I was thinking about using that and a wire brush then rinse it off, also what's a good cleaning product for aluminum heads that won't discolor but give it some kind of shine to it?
When I had my trans out I tried everything that was recommended on here. Oven cleaner, wheel cleaner etc etc. For my case nothing did much of anything for removing oxidation from the aluminum. It made a caustic mess. What I ended up doing is using simple green, scouring pads, wire wheels and brushes and get off as much as I could. Then I sprayed it with VHT high temp aluminum look paint.
My opinion, you will never get oxidized dirty aluminum to look shiny without a huge amount of work. If there is a product out there to do the hard work I don't know what it is.

I wash with any degreaser (usually purple stuff, but simple green works fine, even just normal soap and water would work given your effort) until all the filth is gone.
IF you want the aluminum shiny, a wire wheel works good.

So we start out with a little pressure wash, a little degreasing, a little scrubbing down
That knocked alot of loose dirt free, a good start.
After a little wire wheel they really shined up nice, this is just so I can see what I am working with.
