Update 2: Project GTO shift ****
Well some good news some bad news. Good news: Picked up the manual GTO **** from the dealership, the boot is still back ordered. It is a solid huge peice, alot more than just the **** that I was expecting. I put the pro 5.0 in with the help of SilverGhost .
Bad news: GTO **** wont come off the stick its on. Atleast not with the effort SilverGhost and I tried (didnt want to break it). Even worse is their is bracket on the stick that would match perfectly up with the existing shifter. Screws right in using existing holes and bolts. BUT, the bracket is on a 45 degree angle and would look like crap.
For those with a stock shifter, the bracket fits on it, slides on like a glove. But you still have the 45 degree problem.
For those with most aftermarket (not sure but atleast on the pro 5.0) it wont fit. The pro 5.0 is too wide. I'm planning on taking either a dremmel or sawzal to the pro 5.0 and shaving a little of to get it to fit, but then the bracket problem still exists. So gotta find somebody with some metel work skillz to cut off the bracket and re-weld it on straight.
On a final note: WTF is up with the GTO trans? Is it on a 45 degree angle? Thats the only way the **** would then be straight on the car...crazy australians.

That shift ****'s been kicking your *** for some time now. Sweet mod though, love the way it looks. Bolt the stick onto the pro 5.0 and twist that **** off man, leverage. If you haven't tried already.

sadly the bracket on the stick is to small to hook directly up to the pro 5.0. And I have tried twisting it with a bunch of force but I don't want to use any more for fear of breaking something. If anyone knows how to pop the **** off that would be super, but it looks like I need to expand the bracket anyway so I'll just relocate the bracket.

Do you think it's threaded on or is there a set screw hidden? Did you try to see if the threads were left handed instead of right?
Just throwing out some options.

no threads, its one of those tricky pop on things. like you can get it on easy...but getting it off is a huge P.I.T.A.! I'm actually wondering if its defected with the ofset of 45 degrees...but either way i still gotta chop that bracket off and reweld it with a bigger gap...now just gotta find somebody with some welding skillz

We'll resurrect this one more time.... This guy figured out how to get the GTO **** off the shifter:
http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1648
If you scroll down to post #2 and look at the 6th and 7th pictures in that post you'll see the stick without the ****, and the plastic piece inside the ****. According to him the **** fitting is similar to one found on a fuel line so if you can find a fuel line disconnect tool that'll fit around the shifter the **** should pop right off.
I tried to buy the shift lever and **** from a dealer in town, they said that the 2 together would cost me $414 CAN ( ~$325 USD). That's pretty ******* expensive for a leather **** stuck on a metal rod, I don't know if it's because the GTO isn't available in Canada or what. It's been asked before, what're the part numbers for the ****, lever, and boot? What do they cost in the States?

-it was extremely expensive. i also have the ****** auto shifter **** laying around and would be more than willing to sell it at a major loss because i have no use for it and the service department at jennings chevy is ******* retarded (thats why i have the stupid auto ****).
