Default Thinking about tinting the back window on the outside lol

Before everyone sets me on fire let me explain. I took the car to get re tinted and the original tint was so old that it was impossible to get all the glue and crap off. The guy said he can't tint it and guarantee it because of all the crap. The sides are good but the rear glass is awful. He said to replace the glass or he can put it on the outside..my car stays in the garage and I never drive in the rain..I know it would scratch easy but I hand wash it myself..if it stays dry and out of the sun it might last a couple of years lol.

You should find a different tint guy then. Plenty of people have gotten the glue off their hatch windows. Once that is off there's nothing stopping new tint from sticking. Or worst case, find another hatch the same color as your car and have that one tinted.

It may actually last a while if the car doesn't see much
sun, rain, debris, etc...

Horrible idea. Find a new hatch glass or get the old tint off, it sucks but it's not impossible. But again..... old tint suuuucks.

I have a similar issue. I have a lexan rear window ( untinted) I've been told that tint does not stick to lexan. I'm going to use perforated black vinyl on the outside, vinyl sticks to lexan great. Should cost close to tint and will last for years, tiny won't stand a chance on the outside even if your car is a garage queen imo.....

Nothing about the old glue could possibly be permanent on glass. Granted, some removal techniques might damage the heating elements if you get too aggressive in the name of expedience, but the glass can absolutely be relieved of any glue/paper.

If you're even considering replacement of the hatch glass then you'll have to remove the hatch anyway, so you can then flip it upside down on something soft and work more easily on cleaning the original. Lots of money saved there.
