Default 98-02 dash pad colors?????

Is there a huge difference in color between the 2 dash pad part numbers? Going to pick up a spare for my 99 but now realize that they come in 2 flavors. I don’t want to end up with a color that won’t match my car. Has anybody placed them side by side and seen a massive difference? Has anybody put a black pad in their car where a dark grey one came out?? I didn’t realize there was different color dash’s produced in the 98-02 Camaro.

The 97-99 charcoal is substantially lighter than the 00-02 ebony color.

Thats what I was wondering. Guess Ill just keep an eye out for a charcoal pad. My car lives in a garage so, I have no idea if or when I might ever run into problems.

The above is correct; '97-'99 color was called "Dark Gray" and was RPO 14I. '00-'02 was called "Ebony" and was RPO 19I.

The "Ebony" is not actually black, it's just a very dark gray (true black is a couple shades darker than this). But it is in fact darker than the "Dark Gray" of the '97-'99 years.

Thanks for the info guys. I honestly didnt realize there was different colors. Now looking at my seats/interior versus pictures of other cars I can definitely see the difference in color.

I put an Ebony (all I could find that wasn't cracked), dash pad on my 98 Dark Gray dash and it honestly doesn't look to bad to me. When I'm in the car, I can't even tell the difference, I can only tell when I'm looking into the car from the outside. Does it bother me a little, yes, but I picked up the Ebony one for only $35 at a salvage yard and have been unable to find a dark gray one that costs less than $200, so I'll live with it. If you want, I can snap a picture tonight for you.

I did the same on my son's 97 and it looked fine. Less of a difference than appears in the pics above. It's the type of thing where because you know the difference, you notice it, but if you didn't, you wouldn't.
