Default Ash tray door won’t stay closed

Hey everyone. While trying to fix a couple electrical issues, I managed to find the metal shield which attaches to the cigarette tray door. After gluing it back on, I noticed that the door no longer stays closed. Minor vehicle motions cause the door to swing open. Any suggestions to fix this?

There is a spring in there to make sure it stays closed - is it on? Try searching for 'ashtray spring'

Does that spring work two ways? Keeps it open and closed?

Kind of, I had an issue with my Ash Tray rattling and bouncing around. When I was redoing my center console I took the spring and extended it a bit and reinstalled it. Solved the problem and only took a few min to accomplish. Its the one on the far right in this pic.

Well I pulled the upper console piece off and found the spring on the floor near the shifter. I missed it a few weeks ago when we actually had a nice day and wanted to get the car out. Rushed to put everything back together. Now it’s all fixed. Onto the next issue.
