Default Interior is out.. Sound deadening..

So, the interior and carpeting is out of my 2000 TA and I'm thinking about throwing in some deadening before I put the carpet back down.

I know lots of people like "peel and stick" or whatever it is from Lowe's but I've heard it smells awful.

Is there a budget friendly version of Dynamat or should I just bite the bullet and grab the Dynamat?

ive used the actual dynamat, and its a good product. i found in the amazon warehouse deals where you can find it half price. last time i found some stinger roadkill, works great. did the floor, back hatch area, and doors. made a nice difference. alot of work, and will cut the heck out of your hands, wear gloves man, trust me.

I've used Frost King self stick duct insulation from the Home Depot on both my RX7 LS1 swap and now on my Camaro and it works great. I also however use a base layer of microballoons mixed with latex paint and then the duct insulation over it. Don't know if I can post links to other forums but this one talks about the microballoons: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/mi...dening-207065/

What about a paint on sound deadening? I've seen it on Powernation. It's like a paint in bedliner

There is some stuff called LizardSkin that is paint on/spray on sound deadener. The microballoons mixed with latex paint is a poor man's way of doing it. Just wear at least partial respirator when mixing it.

I used Peel & Seal on my car with a layer of Frost King duct insulation over it. The duct insulation works more for noise than the peel and seal. The peel and seal is mostly for vibration harmonics because it adds weight to the panels themselves and tie them together better so they're not so flimsy. I live in Florida where it's hotter than Satan's taint usually and i've have zero issues with the smell ever.

I used Second Skin Audio B-stock damplifier in my truck. Second Skins products are top notch, and i didnt notice any differences in the b-stock, and the normal damplfier i have used in the past.

I've been thinking about this lately to try and be ready before I pull my interior for the roll cage. I was looking at the lizard skin thermal barrier and sound deadening, but would love to hear some first hand opinions on it. I want to keep it light, but still want to drive it on long trips without going def and it would be nice to block sun on the roof from heating the car some.

i have a bag of microballoons waiting to do the same thing. I wasnt going to use latex though. I plan on mixing with an oil based enamel like topside. This is the poor mans lizard skin.

I'm pretty sure I used latex house paint but I could be wrong. I just bought a gallon of cheap messed up paint from Home Depot for less than $10.

here is where I got them. I got the 1lb bag. May do Latex as well. I don't think the microballoons care either way so latex/oil should both be fine.

I'm joining the chat.

I removed my AC and I need to find something to keep some heat out decently well. Can get humid and hot in NKY.

Also not looking to add a bunch of weight either. I like the idea of double backed aluminum foil pads/sheets you can just lay down then put carpet on top.

Lizard Skin and Eastwood have spray in thermal products and only need 4mils thick to be effective...about $100 for a gallon.

I came across a thread of people mixing micro glaa bubbles and or ceramic insulating ***** to any latex paint. It is supposed to be similar to Lizard Skin at a fraction of the cost.
http://www.hytechsales.com/insulatin...additives.html
I guess the idea of paint additives for insulation or thermal barrier is nothing new. I believe that's all Lizard Skin is anyways,

FYI for those that are looking to add a butyl style stick on deadener...I added some to my trunk area where the exhaust would run over the axle (as well as other areas over the gas tank etc)...and it will bleed like a stuck pig due to the heat right there. I just noticed it last night and I realized it's the exhaust doing it. No other area is bleeding like that.

I autocross and race my car on 80+* days so it will get HOT. I don't know how hot but hotter than simply daily driving I would assume.

That's odd because I live in Central Florida and race my car as well, but mine isn't melted or bleeding or anything. Maybe its the brand?

It wasn't the more expensive product that's for sure...I will admit. Could have been cheaper for a reason
