Default Trans Am - Rear Filler Panel Decal

Hi everyone,

I'm the proud new owner of a 2001 Trans Am! It's a 6-speed WS6 in Sunset Orange Metallic, with only 69k miles. It's a great car and a lot of fun to drive.

The previous owner had the rear filler panel blacked out. I think it looks nicer with the decal, so I bought a new one, but first I'd like to know what I should do to prepare the panel before applying it. It looks like the previous decal was just painted over. Is it worth it to try to remove the old decal, or should I just apply it on top of the old one?

Most of them look that way by now, they just fade over the years. I wouldn't apply over the existing, clean the old one off and have a good clean surface to apply the new one to. This would be a good time to get a headlight restoration kit and sand/buff the whole panel, as well as the tail lights. Make that whole back end really stand out again!
