Silica Packets Inside Light Housings I had a thought about this. As I prepare to replace my DRL housings and tail lights... I wondered if there would be any benefit or harm in throwing in some little silica packets to help absorb moisture. I don't think they would be noticeable, and you could replace them periodically. Thoughts?
Interesting you came up with this idea. OEM have and do put desiccant packets in some lamps. Some are serviceable, some are not. They won't do any harm, but they will get saturated at some point and become hard. You should have a vent on these lamps already that should prevent most condensation and let it out. New lamps have gortex patches that perform the venting.

A silica packet just won't have enough desiccating power if there's any real break to let moisture in - you'd have to be near hermetic to get any life for that little volume. Go with a vent if you feel moisture is an issue. I focus on sealing by making sure housings are in good shape, no hairline cracks, fresh gaskets with a little vaseline on them.
