Meguiar's polisher vs. Porter Cable 7424
What is the difference between the Meguiar's dual action polisher and the Porter Cable 7424? I know the Meguiar's polisher is made by Porter Cable. The Meguiar's is about $225 (thru their web site) and the 7424 is about $139 locally. Are these two polishers the same thing? If not which is better?
Thanks,
James

There is no difference, except for a warranty with the Meguiar's unit. It's a PC relabeled as Meguiar's.
You should be able to pick up the PC 7336 (same thing) at Lowes for $110.

Ok, every where I call say that they have to special order the PC 7424. They do however have that PC 7336sp (for $110 like ZaneO said). From the PC web site it looks like they are the same thing (speed, power, etc.). The 7336 description is "Variable-Speed Random-Orbit Sander (6") with Polishing Pad" and the 7424 is "6" Variable-Speed Random-Orbit Polisher". If they are truely the same thing, why have two different products?

Ok, I bought the PC 7336. It comes with one foam polish pad. I went to a ton of stores trying to find the yellow and grey foam polishing pads. No luck. What stores can you buy those things at? I can order them over the net, but would like to polish/wax the car this weekend, so would rather find them locally.

If you want Meguiar's pads (do you have a backing plate?) go to their website and do a dealer locator. You can search for stores that carry the pro line, I got a cutting pad at a paint supply store that was literally a mile from my house... I would have never thought they carried auto detailing stuff...
My Polishing and Finishing pads are Lake Country, though... awesome pads if you can get them.

As mentioned, you're going to have to get a backing plate first. Sorry.
I bought 3 pads from Meguiars: WDAV99-B for $24.95 and their backing plate: W-64DA for $17.99 Not saying there aren't better deals, but it's a start.

Yeah, I went ahead and order them from Meguiar's. They had a package: the backplate, 2 foam polishing pads, and 1 finishing pad for like $32. I went ahead and got some extra pads too. Thanks for your help all.
