Default Full pillar gauge pods

I'm ordering my gauges and I'm wondering if the Autometer full pillar triple gauge pod is any good. I helped a friend install a "full pillar" dual gauge pod on his 97 Talon TSi from Lotek and it really sucks. It had to mount on top of the stock A pillar. Is the autometer pillar a full replacement? Does anyone make a full replacement?

The autometer mounts on top of the stock a-pillar as well, however it looks good you can't tell it mounts on top.

is there anywhere I can get a full replacement? with the autometer will I have to drill holes in the existing pillar?

Nowhere that I know of, and yes you will have to drill holes in the stock one.

There is usually pillars on e-bay, I've seen them there before. I have the autometer triple pillar and like everyone says it mounts on top but looks great.
Get your self an extra pillar from e-bay or junkyard if your not wanting to use your existing one. I had the same hesitation as you but just went ahead and did it and once I was done w/the install I never thought about it again. I love staring at it makes me feel like I'm in a cockpit. here is some pics

Yes, you'll have to drill holes in the a-pillar. Actually it will be pretty torn up b/c the holes in which the wires come through has to be pretty big.

I didn't drill holes in my factory a-pillar for the wires, they can run out the bottom outter side of it with no problems.

Yeah me either... all my gauges are electrical plenty of room for wires to come out the side like sly said. No wires are visable at all totally behind the pillar.

No they don't. Mine came from rksport and the ones they sell are autometer.
They attach by drilling real small holes then you use the plastic push pins provided to attach, look at z28venoms. It is all one solid piece just attaches to your existing pillar, look at rksports pics of it a little closer and you can see the round vent hole were the defrost comes out thats the factory pillar underneth it. The new pillar does not come with an actual vent just an oversized hole to go over the existing one. Trust me I paid to much for it from rksport thinking the same thing you did.

Installing the Autometer unit is very clean and easy. Drill six small holes along the edges of the stock pillar and install the little plastic tabs.

The tabs are visible in my pics..

Mine isnt trash at all. However it's black, so it doesnt exactly match the interior unless you want to paint it. It's not very noticible though.
