Freakynipples, I think Zaino works fine too. It's not that I am too narrow minded or ignorant to try new products, it's just that sometimes you just tend to stick with what you like, and I LIKE ZAINO! Damnit.

Here are a few pics, in case YOU want to look at them.

I have tried many products on many makes and models on many colors. Zaino is a good product, but it seams to me that different brands like different finishes and colors. I had a black Dakota and I always used Meguires on other cars, but when I put it on the Dak, it left swirl like marks. It was the wax smearing all over. So then I tried mothers and 3m. Those looked great. I can use any of those products on my camaro, but the Meguires and 3M don't hold up. I tried this stuff I bought from a car show (Biz X or something) and it out shines anything I ever used and out lasts. Now I have seen Zaino on a daily driven '96 black Cobra that never used anything but Mothers and it was unbelievable. It used to have webs and swirls, after the Zaino it looked like fresh paint. Car had over 100K on it. Driven all year in Chicago area. Did I mention it was black. I don't use their product, but I believe in it. I just don't like the price.

Claying is essential; along with polishing.

It depends on the condition of the paint. After you wash it (and I mean completely clean wax and all) and there is still stuff on the finish such as oxidation (you can actually feel it), tar, bugs and other road **** then it is appropriate. I use it on my rocker panels every time I detail my car because this is construction town and no way of getting around road **** on the rockers or wheel wells. Always use a quick detailer as a lubricant, never use water. It is not necesarry to bar the whole car every time you wax (unless it really looks like hell).

A daily driven car should only need clay a couple of times a year (on average).

What's the best way to clay bar a car, how do you do it right?

Freaky: here is a thread on what I did with my car a while back. This should give you some idea as to what products are out there, but in my experience, it is more about the process than the product.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/appearance-detailing/174696-finally-took-some-pictures.html

As for claying, what I do is fill a spray bottle with carwash and water mix, to act as a lubricant. Wash and dry the car, then do lubricate an area and rub thw clay over it. Make sure you knead the clay to keep the dirt and stuff it pulls out from getting re-applied to your car in another spot. When the whole car is done, wash and dry again, then start the polish, sealant, and wax.

Zane: How does Souveran and Wolfgang compare to Blackfire? I'm currently using Menzerna twins, followed by Blackfire, then a coat of Meguiars 26. I'm relatively happy with the results, but still looking for something that will give me a little more depth.

Freaky - http://www.bettercarcare.com/articles.php?articleId=14

Chup - I honestly can't compare, because I've never used Blackfire. There are just too many products out there

You realy should use quick detailer spray wax of some sort for a lubricant. Spray on the detailer, rub the bar over the finish, and wipe dry with a clean towel. If it dries on the paint, it won't hurt since it is wax, and you don't have to wash it again when you are done. We all know what soapy water does to finish when it dries on. Oh and be shure to fold your bar over as you pick up more grime and such to avoid rubbing it back into the finish.

Thanks dude- I appreciate it! I only wash it like twice a week. It seems to rain dirt here in Germany.

Put your hand in a plastic baggy (with your car clean) and see if you finish is still as smooth as you think.

Good. Then you have been cleaning it properly. You don't want to do it if you don't have too.
I detailed a truck once that was hit with deck sealer over spray (black with orange spray, very obvious). So I washed it, and took out the bar and detailer and vuala, no more over spray. Great for when your in a pinch.
