Angry silverstars suck

hey all,

I purchased those silverstar headlights like 4 months ago, and both of them have already burned out. WTF? I thought they were supposed to be excellent lights. think I am gonna spend the money on HID's soon.

I've had them for almost a year with no problems and I love the look. Money well spent in my opinion. Naturally I like HIDs even more but I can't justify spending that kind of money.

I beg to differ, I have had silverstars for almost 2 years counting with no problems. They are great headlights for the price.

I love mine too. Are you sure you were cautious not to handle bulb from the glass? This will leave skin oil on the glass and will cause the bulbs to overheat and burn out quicker.

This is very true. Used to have people come into the parts dept at my Infiniti stealership wanting to know why their bulbs had burned out after a few weeks.

The art department that I work in used to have stat cameras. The bulbs in those were definitely a "no touching with your fingers" item. They'd blow in no time flat. Now when they were handled properly, they'd last years.

This is true of all halogen bulbs (and other high heat bulbs -- including HID). Never touch the glass with your bare hands or a dirty/oily cloth. If you must handle them by the glass, use a clean/dry paper towel or cloth (nothing with oil/lotions/chemials ex:no facial tissues). The oil from your skin stays behind on the glass and causes uneven (or excessive) heating of the glass which leads to damage and premature failure.

Autozone and places like that have them. I think they are normally about $20 per bulb or the 2 pack is a bit cheaper. I got mine when they where doing the rebates and I think it came out to about $60 for all 4. They are deffinatly nice, they produce alot more light that is real clear (not that yellow kind of light like stock), and they don't have that cheap blue tint to them. I've had mine for along time with no issues at all.

The DRLs use a dual filament bulb. The dimmer filament is for the DRL feature and the brighter filament is for the turn signal. Did you use a dual filament bulb or jam in a single filament bulb? Actually....this is true of the Firebird, I'm not certain if its true of the Camaro.

I have the Silverstars in all of my vehicles and I've been very happy with them. For the price they're hard to beat and really do make an improvement. The only problem I've had with them dying are the foglamps on my GTP for some reason (they're 880's IIRC). Both bulbs went out within 6 months, but at this point I'm writing it off to a bad batch because the new ones haven't had the same problem nor have any of my others. Actually, my wife's WRX is going on 2.5 years with the original Silverstars.

BTW, if you can't find them locally you can order them through Sylvania online as well. Here's the link: http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProd...op/default.htm

They are dual filament. I've tried reversing the bulb in the socket and I can only get one of the filaments to illuminate for the DRL.

I have had them in my Vovlo since last Christmas. Excellent bulbs, light up the road very well. When I start driving the Camaro again I am going to purchase myself a set!

Only one filament is supposed to illuminate for the DRL. They use the dimmer filament. The turn signal uses the brighter filament.

I take my comment back. Mine aren't silverstars. I thought they were. They are some "chrome somethingorother" lights.

When I flip the turn signal on, the DRLs get BRIGHTER rather then dimming like every other bulb. I'd like mine if they just worked like a regular bulb.
