Default Paint Peeling (more like Bubbling)

My paint has recently started to bubble (like a white film ontop of the black, clear?) on the pillar behind the passenger door, thats the only place itslocated and i can see other spatches that look like bubles UNDER the black itself. What is this and why is it happening?

That really sucks to hear! It sounds like the clearcoat is separating from what you have said. As far as the bubbles under the black paint, I wouldnt believe its rust or anything like that. Just sounds like it is starting to lift. The best thing would be for a body shop to check that area out really good and reapply the basecoat/clearcoat on the pillar. Hopefully you won't have to do the entire roof of the car. Good luck! Mike

This is a common problem caused by improper priming of the underside of the roof panel. This results in the glue bonding the roof to the body reacting with the plastic roof material.

Re-painting will not correct the problem. The roof panel has to be replaced.

Here's a link to a recent post about the bubbling problem.

Print that TSB and go to your local GM dealer to have them take a look at it and eventually replace the roof panel.

This happened to mine. The body shop guy said it was normal in some 01 and 02's. Even after my warranty ran out he had the top removed/replaced and painted. total cost to me....$0.00 dollars. I checked with GM for a recal to see if it would cost me prior togoing. They said that they needed a few more reports before they could issue a recall but that it was a known problem. Just take it by a dealership and see what they say.

i had mine replaced for free..AND i got a free rental while it was in the shop back in august

the vapors from the adhesive seep through the paint and cause the bubbles.

See my post on ls2.com about it

Good luck with it. My dealer refused to fix mine, even after I took it all the way to the regional service manager.

This problem sucks, I know, because I have it, as well as 4 other people I know. My car was brought to a dealership, and they told us that since it was out of warranty they couldn' t do anything. I' m not done with them yet though.
