I used it on my old car, and it works great! It takes a while if you do a good job.

You can get it at pepboys or other store like that, id reccomend it.

I don't know about hard, but probably time consuming. It is used to remove surface impurities and such before you wax/polish/whatever the car. Do some research at Zaino's site and there is some other car-washing-tip site, but I can't remeber the name.... Some other member should be able to help you out...

Claying is very important to remove surface contaminants, etc.

Here is a little write-up explaining how to use one: http://bettercarcare.com/articles.php?articleId=14

your car's finish will feel like a baby's butt when you're done with it. I kind of feel like Michael Jackson for saying that but it really will feel like that.

hand wash your car with dawn soap before you do it to strip all the old wax off, then just use the lube they provide, if u get low jus fill the bottle with water, jus go one area at a time.

Stay away from Dawn dishwashing liquid when prepping your car for clay, this is not a good soap to use and is strongly not recommended for our cars. It is designed to strip grease and burnt stuff off of cooking utensils(especially my wife's cooking utensils..!!), not for gently removing road grime from cars.

It's always a good idea to use a soap designed for washing cars only so you don't dry out or damage the paint and any graphics. Claymagic is found in most auto parts stores and does a great job, costs is 10 or 12 bucks.

Another source for you to bookmark and frequent is autopia.com. Excellent site for detailing info.

I washed my car with dawn soap to strip all the old wax off (which did NOT harm my car - I was paranoid about that too), then clayed with the Megurars Clay Bar, then i rewaxed it and it looked so flippin good that i wish it would always stay that way. I could not believe how ridiculously smooth it was!

Yep, I also read that using Dawn was once recommended but was found out to start fading. Autopia is a great site for detailing noobs and detailing nuts.

A claybar is a wise investment; especially if you have an older car. Just takes a good few hours to make your way around. Constantly keep the surface moist, otherwise the clay will leave marks.

93BlackZ28,

You've got one of the nicest looking '93's I've ever seen...Does your black paint look that good in person? If so, even more power to you...But either way, you've got one sharp LT1 Z28 that is 12 years old, that's for sure.

Oh and it's kinda funny, because I noticed on your site that you and your other two buddies with LT1's all have the Hooker cat-back on your rides...Damn you guys must like Hookers (the "sound" of the Hooker's I mean!). I actually used to have one on my '95 (was on the car when I bought it), but ended up ditching it for something louder and stainless steel. Although your system appears to be in good shape...

BTW, A4 or M6?

Mike

Cahill93Z28...Nice car man! I can honestly say your LT1 is one of the nicest '93's I've seen as well like Black93's... Looooooove that last pic of your old Camaro by the river BTW!

And I've already known ZaneO has had one of the sharpest looking early 4th gens as well...

Nice cars guys...Hopefully I can have my '95 Z28 w/ 110,000+ miles on it looking like that come this spring too...

I think we now need to start an appearance section strictly for LT1 Camaros.

The clay bar is FREAKIN GREAT! My car had 100k worth of crap on there, and about 1.5 hours later, I had her smooth as a baby's ***! I used the Meguiar's Gold Class one, about $13 at the local parts store.
