im guessing thats aluminum like the stock one but ive just cleaned them up with a brass brush or rag and degreaser then spray brake clean and let it dry, then used 500 degree engine paint. im not sure about all colors but clear has a tendancy to yellow a little bit.

Well I just finished painting my LS6 intake and it looks ****'n awsome. I spent about 10 hours sanding with coarse, medium, fine, snd 2000 grit sand paper. Then I used primer, paint and then clear. I spent a lot of time sanding cause I was using a rattle can and didn't want it to look shitty. I also got a tip from one of the guys. Boil some water and put the can of paint in it for about 3 or 4 minutes. This will loosen the paint up so it doesn't clog. Worked very well. I will post pic's when I am all done. Hope this helps.

It's not aluminum its plastic... I would recommend sanding it to get it nice a flat with like 2000 grit... then primer paint and clear it... IMO

You may want to figure out what kind of plastic it is. Some plastics require a special adhesion promoter, or it will just flake off later. I bet FAST would know.

There is some pics of my intake in there. I did not sand it down. I just prepped it with a degreaser and a tack cloth and then sprayed it.

jackasses. 2000 grit paper is for CLEARCOAT before you BUFF IT OUT. if you plan on priming it justsand with 180 to get it smooth, then 320 before primer. sand primer with 400-600 then paint. there is no point in using anything finer than 800 before paint. if you want it smooth, sand the texture out with 180, then 320,adhesion promotor, prime, 600, paint. if you dont mind the texture just scuff with a red scuff pad, adhesion promotor, then paint.

adhesion promotor should be used for all types of BARE plastic. i'm a newbie to ls1's, so i dont know whaty type of plastic the intake is, but every brand of paint makes an adhesion promotor that works. i use dupont's 222, or Bulldog on cheaper stuff

sanding the FAST is a PITA by hand. painting mine a metallic silver to go with my future plans. did 180 then 320. taking off wilson was the biggest pain, i used a rough file to get most of it off. using duplicolor adhesion promoter, duplicolor silver metallic and duplicolor clear. if it turns out like crap, ill redo it in a flat black to look factory

Yeah...I had a lot of hours into sanding my FAST...the texture seemed to really run deep into the plastic...as for the lettering, I just used my Dremel...CAREFULLY...and ground most of it off...then I finished up with some 180 and 220...
