Default fenders pushed out

The lower part of my fenders by the door stick out a good 1.5" from where they should. The car looks like it was put on a lift before i bought it and they didnt mount it right therefore bending the bracket the fender mounts too outward. I plan on fixing this during the weekend. The only suggestions i have got so far are to put a block of wood or phone book against the bracket and hit it with a hammer untill it straightens, any other or more appropriate suggestions?

Yeah, get really really really drunk and hit it with a really big hammer numerous times. That way you wont feel so bad doing it, then you can black out from being drunk and claim it as an accident lol.

- JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!!! -

Seriously tho, I wouldnt go whacking on the body panels unless you've got some experience in that. You're liable to do more damage than good. Yeah, its a PITA to sit there and look @ the deformed body, but if you dont have the experience in that area, take it to a professional.

Mine was out about an inch. And I could tell that when I had it at a tire shop, they lifted it at the wrong place and bent the heck out of it.
I fixed mine myself by just unbolting it and taking some pliers and pulled all the bends out and bent it back a little. Looks great now. The metal is really easy to bend.
Good luck.

ill most likely unbolt the fender in that spot and bend it back or use my board and hammer technique. sounds exactly like what happened to mine. those SOB's!

Mine got lifted at a tire place and it actually broke the bottom piece of the front passenger fender that hangs down.

As someone else said, more likely someone jacked it up in the wrong spot and bent/broke the bottom of the fender, you can take it off and try to streighten it up or weld back any rips. -Jim

And yes, the 2x4 & BFH works well for beating the "Do Not Jack Here" tab back in place, ...
Been there, Done that, ...
Mine was like that when I bought the car also. Although the fenders realy didn't stick out very far at all, the tabs underneath were bent over. I used a pair crescent wrenches on it to pull it back a little bit, then used the board & hammer to even it out.

You'd never be able tell there was ever a problem now, ...

Perhaps one of the sponsers can come up with a "NO JACK" label to put on the underside of the car near where the fender bolts are at.

This happen to me by the Chevy dealer and of course they fixed it after I noticed.

Previous owner of my car had it on a lift and it 100% dented in the steel piece under the driver and passenger doors, right infront of the rear wheel well. The passenger side was so bad that my passenger door was rubbing up against the door sill, I hammered it out a little but still isn't fixed.

Same here. Mine got bent over a little at some point, but the fenders weren't affected at all. I'm not going to mess with straightening them unless I have to...

The mounting tab on one side was bent, I straightened it with a large pair of channel locks wrapped w/cloth. The other side bent out the other way and actually ripped the underside of the fender. Cost about 106$ to fix at the body shop, which I took out in trade at the tire shop that let the dummy lift it in the wrong spot.
The bitch of it is, on my '96 Camaro there were pads underneath for lifting. Wonder why they stopped that? Guess it just didn't make it into the next gen F-bods.

I'm going to state the obvious here: if your car is going on a lift then demand you approve of where they put the pads before jacking it. Screw em' if they say "you can't come into the bay", take your business somewhere else that will allow you to monitor your car. There are pads on the frame specifically for lifts!

The only caveat with DYI is front end alignment being off. If you have lazer levelers then use them so you aren't too far to the left or right - its tough to tell by eyeballing. Then you are stuck with a tire that is wearing faster than the rest or a seriously bad cornering issue.
