Newspaper... I'm sure there is some physics that explain it, but I can vouch that newspapers can clean glass extremely well compared to paper towels and such. I've seen many restaurants do it too.
ssrunner: In your case, I would definately try the steel wool idea. I've heard on these boards before that your glass could actually be etched (permanently damaged). Don't know the validity behind it though.

to the orig question... I used a PC and some fine compound on some light scratchs (bad wipers)
the vinegar works wonders too.
0000 (4, not 3) works damn good too.
well i tried a few things, thay was mention, but nothing didn't work good as the duragloss water spot remover, i have to admit that is some good stuff, i had to apply it twic but it worked, thanks for the advice guys
The ink in newspapers acts as a very fine polish for the glass. It's also lint free. 
Here are some other ideas that weren't mentioned before, or that I didn't see: clay bar, Dawn blue soap, LCR (or is it CLR?) cleaner or Lime Away or something similar. I don't like the idea of using steel wool on glass, not even 000 or 0000.

I remember the newspaper trick from years and years ago. It did have something to do with the inks, but newspaper ink has changed drastically in the last 20 years. I've had the best results with the claybar.
I work at a BMW dealership in detail, and we use a Windex hybrid and plain cloth. Usually just takes alot of scrubbing. If that doesn't work, throw some laquer thinner at it, it'll definately come off.
