They probably wouldn't like my 5% all way around....

You have to get it all the way around

Tint them all the way around for the best look.

I just don't understand why some states (even those in the north) outlaw window tint. There is no place in the great USA that doesn't get somewhat hot in the summer. Hell, window tint helps all year round as far as I'm concerned. I can remember the interior getting pretty toasty even on a cold, yet sunny winter day.

My advice is to take a picture of your car before you get it tinted, and than tint it as dark as you want.If you get a fix it ticket just show the picture to the judge. Dont drive your car to the courthouse either.
BTW I have 20% all the way around, I think legal here is 35%. I have been stopped on several occasions and they have never even given my tint a second look.

Just tint it all.

Anything darker than 35% is illegal in many states, yet many, many people go darker anyways. And most people don't get into any trouble for it unless they're already driving around drawing attention to themselves.

I live in IL and I know more then enough people who get problems from the cops, including myself. I currently have my rear glass tinted at 4%. I used to have the sides at 20% and got pulled over twice. Each time the cop had me goto court and pay a $55 fine. It does look really good with the sides tinted (since I know tint shop owners I can get my sides redone for basically some change), but I really don't like waisting my time with the cops.

As for the photo thing, I personally have never heard of that trick actually working. Most judges don't care if you fixed it or not, the fact that you had it at that point in time makes you guilty.

I went too dark on my 99. I put 2.5% on the sides... Not cool at night.. Probably want to stick with 20% on sides (lowest). At night, you CANNOT see people walking, or bikers flying by on the sidewalks.. I had a close call with a biker just hauling *** on a sidewalk at a bad intersection. (blocked view of both directions) you gotta look both ways and go quick, oncoming traffic goes by real quick, and you cannot see it coming.. I almost went and this dude hauled out in front of me... If i was 3 seconds sooner on the gas that dude woulda been on my hood. I only drive with windows down at night, and it never leaves the garage if its going to rain, so i dont have to worry bout that. some advice....

thank's for the advice guys, i think i might just get the hatch tinted and not do the sides, i would rather not worry about the cops. i am not a big fan of them in the first place so giving them one more reason to leave me alone sounds like a good idea to me. and im kind of with madicev8 on this one, i doubt that picture trick would actually work, but who know's ive never tried it. i guess i could use the money for something else that i would have used to tint the side windows, but the back window is going dark as hell, im thinking 5%ish, what about you guys?

Alright you guys. I've made up my mind, I'm tinting all around. I figure screw it, it just wont look right i dont think just having the hatch tinted. I think what ill do is get limo tint in the back and then only like 25% or 35% on the sides, that way it wont look too dark.

If you get any darker than 20% on the back, its gonna make it tough to see out. Not impossible, but your eyes will def, have to work.. Having had expirence with really dark tint, i would go with no less than 20% in the back..

Limo in the back is no problem for me. The limo on the sides is a real problem at night. Thinking of changing my sides to maybe a 35

a lot of people will get limo b/c it's just the first thing that comes to mind when you think tint (including myself). in retrospect, i think 20% all around is plenty dark. currently, i have 5% all around and 35% on the windshield. although it looks cool, i think it's overkill. i like the windshield at 35% but i should've gotten 20-25% on the rest (like the damn shop owner told me!).
