Default A4 Shift Boot?

I want to eliminate the stock plasticky strips to kill the rattle they cause and install a leather shift boot. Anyone know of a good source for one that would work? I've been to all the usual parts store chains, and everything they have looks cheapo or ricey. I've searched, read the threads, and seen that Afterthoughts carries a universal replacement that might work, but it's $35+shipping. Any other leads or ideas?

I knew a guy on LS1 who was making a leather one for his car. It looked REAL nice; however his info was lost with the site. He might be on LS2 though. might be worth checking out.

I took a shift boot out of a Pontiac Sunfire or something like that and popped it on my car. Its a little long but the base fits perfect, you could probably trim the top and get it restitched.

Here is the write-up:

I was thinking of replacing it with a boot made of smoother leather with silver stitching.

Thanks, guys. VIPI, I've searched and have read your posts ... right now I'm looking for a source for a boot that will work ... so far I haven't found anything that looks decent.

Almost any leather shift boot will work.
It all comes down to personal preference.

Just remember that the fitment process is trial and error.
The shift boot will need to be trimmed to fit.

You *could* just order the manual console plate and pop that on. I think it was around 50 bucks. Thats what I did, you can only get to 3rd and 4th (OD) though. The opening won't let it get back into first or second. I dosent really bother me though, just gotta be carefull doing burnouts sometimes. Plus I hid my switches in the ashray which is much more visable now.

I have one from the factory in my 99 Jimmy. It looks like it would fit pretty good. I'm going to grab one from a junkyard one of these days and see if its fits.

I didnt (and still dont) want my auto to look like a manual. I just wanted to get rid of the cheap plastic sliders and improve the appearance of the interior. Also, as you said, the manual console blocks some the the auto's detents and you cant see what position the lever is in just by looking at it.

Thats cool, I didn't either but it does look the cleanest. I took off the tab with the gear pattern on it, and left the stock auto shifter on. I've gotten many compliments. Just trying to give a another suggestion.
