Washing engine..
K guys, I know this has been asked time and time again but here goes. I had to take my car on a dirt road and all kinds of dust got all over everthing under the hood. I tried just using simple green and a rag but just cant get in the tight areas. Anyone ever wash their engine? Can you? If so drop a post and let me know.
thanks
thanks

i've never had a problem with simple green....I love that stuff! Make sure when you apply it you hit EVERYTHING. Set the nozzle to "stream" to get it in the tight spots. Once you've done that, let it sit for about 5 minutes, then spray it off with a hose/nozzle. Using a rag just makes it smear.

Then lightly mist a COOL/COLD engine down with Simple Green, or another form of degreaser (if you want, dilute it some - 75/25 or 50/50 mix works).
Take a brush (they sell all types and sizes) and loosen up the heavy grime/dirt/debris etc.
Wash the painted area's with soap like you'd use on the body.
Then lightly mist off the area with water and air dry (with either compressed air, or a leaf blower).
Thats basically the jist of the sticky.

Well, when my car was really nasty, I would use simple green... I have to be honest, I've never removed anything at all, I see a lot of people suggesting that you remove a few things, and they're probably right...I just never have.
I would just spray everywhere that I was really trying to clean and rinse it off immediately. Do not let it sit for long.
Now because my car is always being cleaned, I just use water and rinse it off. Never have any problems.

Oh, and one more thing... I've never had to use a brush or anything either... I swear Simple Green just makes all kinds of dirt and oil and grime come right off, without even touching it.

There's things Simple Green says not to use it on, thats the only reason people say to remove things.
And the more you keep using the stuff, and the cleaner you keep your engine (esp if you wash the car say 2-3 times a month) the less chance you have of getting a heavy grime buildup on the engine. Now if you just do it casually, of course it'll be tougher to get that crap off after its built up. But Simple Green, and damn near any other degreaser should work in cleaning the engine bay. Just use your head and be careful.

Haha, I am a girl... My name is monica, loved cars since I was big enough to know what a car was. When I was little all I could think about was owning something with a big motor in it... Always loved camaros, trans ams, and vettes.
When I saw a vette for the first time, I fell in love, it was like an 80-82 model. Still think I'd like to have one of those...with a big block in it.
Enough about me though

Didnt think so at first because of the GTO motor, cam and big stall converter. Usually the women like the power but not all huge stuff. No offense dear just stating some facts. Don't tell me you do the work on it.

dont use simple green, it eats aluminum. maybe you cant see the effects at first, but dont use it
mine was VERY dirty when i got it (it had been driven through meadians and such) and i went to the car wash and used the tire cleaner/engine degreser that they had there, worked amazingly... btw i wouldnt "dress up" the motor, it just makes dirt stick to it, just hose it off occasionaly when you wash your car, and id be careful spraying to long around the intake, water can get under the intake and mess with your knock sensors...

God, I just hope you didn't see the post I put up... It was like a paragraph long about stickies and I posted it and then looked at your name, and turned so red, and deleted it as fast as I could.
