Jason, sorry for the delay. Didn't realize you asked a question till now. Personally I'd run all of them through a resistor so it's nice low light, then full blast for brake. All you need is a couple of diodes and you'll be set. BTW, depending on how many LEDs you want to do, if it's alot I'd consider running through multiple resistors to disapte the heat. Just figure out what size you'll need, then get a bunch to add them up. OR if you can find that size in a 1w or higher that would work too. I think I used 3 for my running light for this 366 LED panel.

All the LEDs are just typical 8000mcd ones since they have the most "true red" and they're the cheapest too.

Cost.... Take the raw materials. Let's say they cost (I'm pulling a number out of the air since I don't know) $30 since I'm not buying 50000 of them at a time but rather, just what I need to complete the project. I've already lost some cost efficiency and thus I have to pass this on to the end consumer. Now, labor. I'm not going to spend 8 hours on one of these to make anything less than I make at my daytime job. Right there, it means if it takes me 8 hours to make one, it's going to have to at least make $400 in profit (in my situation anyway) over the cost of the raw materials. And, if it was ONLY going to make $400 profit, why wouldn't I just work 8 extra hours at my job on my computer instead of fussing with this project? So, our good friend has provided a blueprint of how to make these very unique devices and leaves it up to us to make them at our leisure and at our own pace.

LED Calculator a friend of mine & I put together (I initally wrote a VB program but that won't work on here without someone to host it... So I gave him the formulas and he wrote the web-based program)... =)

That does look cool...but I don't think I understand why you made a big rectangular grid of LED's...aren't most of them just covered by the part of the plexiglass that you painted black?

I could have made the shape more of "bird like" but when wiring LEDs making a rectangle eliminates alot of jumper wires between the different strands, allows for easier soldering and wiring them all up. I did make my front illumianted plate "bird like" and it worked and has for 3 years now, it was a PITA to solder it together and to keep track of which strand was where. Just one of those things I've learned from all the LED projects I've done.

i have a couple questions because i am turning my camaro tail lights into all LEDs by making custom circuit boards for each light. where do u get your blank circuit board, i tried searching google but didnt find anything. and i also have to ask how you know what resistors and how many to use for the LEDs. i saw the link for the calculator but dont understand how to use it.
