Default Tail light dimple?

I know this a GM defect. I was wondering if there is a way to fix it and prevent it.

Maybe I was not clear on what I am talking about. After the heat builds up in the tail light, the lense sinks inward creating a dimple in the contour of the light. This usually happens if you sit in traffic a lot with the brakes on. Although, my camaro only has 11000 miles on it. Does anyone have this problem?

I have it on both places the same size on each rear light. I believe mine are from Blackout covers that used to be on the cars. It doesn't stand out to much so I don't care.

Try using the search function before posting a new thread, this has come up atleast 50 times. No it does not happen to birds. The conclusion that was established was that it was maily due to blackouts. Only way to fix it is to take the taillights out, put a heat gun on the dimpled area, once it is pretty hot, use something like the handle end of the screwdriver and and push it back out, goiin through where the light bulb is mounted

I did use the search function. I think I have been on the board long enough to figure that out. Thanks for the advice.

its not a GM defect, the person before you probably had blackouts on the car. excessive heat will melt the lenses, just find some new ones thats my suggestion

i disagree with the conclusion that it is only caused from blackouts. it is some kind of defect in the lights. my 98 9which i bought new) had dimples in them when i sold it and it never had blackouts on it. my 02 which i have had longer than i had the 98 does not have the dimples, nor did it ever have blackouts, that makes me think that it is some defect in the lights. if you put blackouts on it, they must amplify the effect.

NOBODY said it was ONLY from the blackouts, if the car sees excessive heat or if someone is on the brakes a lot it will do it also

it happened to the pass side light on my 97. bought another set. for around 50ish used. wasn't there when i bought the car itself, showed up some time later. no blackouts. all that happens is that the lights run for such a long time it heats up the area alot expanding the air till it gets forced out. THEN when it cools it sucks and the lense "dents" inward from the suction.
