Default i think im on to something. . .

iv been reading up on the good ol internet and aparently a lot of those aftermarket fiberglass goods are hand laid. even intricate ones like the ws6 hood are. iv never fiberglassed but i think im gona get some materials and start screwing around so i get good at it. then whose to say i couldnt make a mold out of my hood and make fiberglass ones. add my own custom scoop or some ****. it would take a lot of work and maybe a few tries. but im pretty good with my hands. any thoughts on this? whats the biggest thing any one here has ever fiberglassed?

I think this will be one of the largest failures of your life , make sure you take lots of pictures !

lol jk I have no idea if thats a bad idea or not, but seriously my guess would be that it would not work out

you obviously dont know me personally, there is no way this could overshaddow my other failures. im gona try and make some simple stuff first, i know better than to try something like that without learning a little technique.

I say go for it. I have done my fair share of fiberglassing and I can say it gets easier with practice but still takes some skill and patience reguardless of how many times you have done it. All those fiberglass companies out there right now that are making hoods still have problems with fit and finish and some of them have been at it over a decade. I wouldnt forsee any real profitable gains at first especially if your time is money but it is certainly worth a shot if you are confident in your skills.

stryker-
yeah i would be doing it more for the hell of it, not to save money or anything. what simple things do you recomend fiberglassing first? also i see the paint work that you do (fuggen awesome) i want to get an inexpensive but decent paint setup. what compresser and or gun do you recommend. i dont know much about auto painting specificly, but i really wanna experiment because i have always been artisticly inclined.

I have been dabbling in the fiberglass stuff for a while, when i was a...errr... ricer with my honda civic, i did the entire interior in fiberglass overlay...i also made a couple of custom pieces, which were a pain in the ***. Make sure you bring alot of patience with you and it helps if you can get your hands on some tyvek coveralls and good, quality dust masks. I still have bad memories of all the itching

Hey stryker do you mind sending me that same info, i hate to turn down some good fiberglass material. email is jlesher32@houston.rr.com

thanks alot

Joshua

im assuming fiberglass overlay is just what its called, laying the fiber glass over things. how thick does the fiberglass end up being when you did your dash? does it have any problem bonding to the dash materail?
yeah i actually own a real gas mask (heh i jacked it when i worked for a lawn company and we were mowing around a huge factory and they had these cabinets out back full of them) and ill just get a dickies coverall work suit. you think that will work?
