Default Town Fair Tire.. idiots..

So I know there have been many people that have had a shop jack up their car right where it says, "DO NOT JACK HERE" on the fenders.

Well, unfortunately for me, around May, I had my car's tires rotated at Town Fair Tire in East Hartford, CT. I was in such a rush to leave since they took 2.5 hours (literally, no joke) for a *free* tire rotation, that I didn't check. Also, I didn't know to check at that time. I went on vacation for a month, came back and when I went to detail me car, I noticed the slight bulge of the fender, but even worse, the fiberglass around one of the bolts is totally cracked! So months later when I notice this, as I don't drive this car much nor do I detail it that often.

Should I bring it back, let them rotate tires again and hope they jack it up like that again and bring it up? Or should I call the company and tell them "In May..."

Thanks for your input.
Jeff

actually you can jack the car up at that point, there is a jack thing there, you arent supposed to jack the car up infron of that sign, there should be a large square piece of plastic for the jack to go on. is that where they jacked up your car? or infront of it?

They jacked it up in front of it, and they jacked it up partly ON the piece that said "DO NOT JACK HERE" that has the two bolts.. and it broke in 1/2.

TAKE IT BACK! But don't expect to get anywhere with the local manager. Try it, don't get angry, be professional about it.

After they deny having done the damage, request a corporate claims contact. If they do not give that to you, do research about small claims in your state. Likely the first step is drafting a Declarations Letter and delivering it to the shop manager.

Once the manager sees you are following a legal procedure his tune will change and he will be more than happy to pass you off to claims.

But, if it is a private shop, you will have to go to small claims.

No offense, but if you came to my shop and claimed damage that was done well over a month ago, I would laugh. They should have given you some sort of paperwork explaining the warranty and liability claims. IIRC, the one we give out states you have 48 hours to claim damage. Mechanics see tons of people trying to rip us off and get something for free. I'm not saying that is what you are doing, but before you get angry, please try to understand where they are coming from.

You have a very good point, and the course of action I am taking is most likely outta my own pocket because I didn't catch it in time.... Still sucks though that all these people do is tires, and they can't even jack up a car properly. wtfbbq?

I agree, some people just shouldn't work on cars. They probably knew nothing about f bodies, and put it on an H lift without looking under the car. The good thing is the tabs can easily be bent back into place with a BFH.

**** I read a month ago in your post... but back in May? It's November. Where'd the other 3 months go?

You're totally hosed.

Can't say it's acceptable for any shop manager to laugh at a customer, but in this case, it's just been to long. Unbolt the fender, patch up the crack, whack the mount back with a 2x4 and big hammer, and reinstall it. If the fender is bent over very badly, warm it up first so it doesn't crack worse.

Don't put alot of money into replacing the whole fender because it just isn't worth it. This happens too often.

Get on with your life and make a point of bringing this up each time you have the car worked on.

Our cars are getting less and less common and this is not going to get any better.
