Default A4 Shift **** Adapter

I order a shift **** from Thunder Racing (2" w/tail) and the A4 adapter from Corvette Accessories. The **** came with spacers and that's it, and the adapter came with the allen wrench. Do I need anything else to install the shift ****? A spring maybe? The **** is too big to fit over the adapter. Any ideas or alternative solutions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have the shift **** on my A4, but the adapter for mine worked well. Is the inner diameter of the way too large for the ****, or is it slightly bigger? You could be able to turn it down with a lathe if you have access to one. If I remember correctly, the adaptor screw must be flush with the surface of the adapter for the **** to slip over it. A picture of mine installed:

Is that SS shift **** the one that is no longer available? My friend got me a MOMO shift **** that looks nice for my A4, not on it yet, but I've always wanted that ball one that you've got.

The inner diameter of the **** is slightly bigger than the adapter. I thought the adapter would fit perfectly since it's made especially for the A4???

My **** was threaded on the inside for the adapter. Is your adapter not threaded on the top? The various plastic/cardboard shims supplied with the **** were for lining up the letters correctly as you tightenen it up. SmokeySS: I purchased my shift **** from Thunder Racing about a year or so ago. I do not know if they have stopped carrying them or not. I think that they were originally manufactured by MBA Products.

The shifter adapter is from MBA products they went out of business. Thunder Racing took over the excess stock try them.

How does it compensate for there being no button on the side?

All the button does is push a roller out of a detent position and allow the shifter to move. The roller is probably removed or always pushed down.

I'm just curious what would keep you from accidentally knocking it out of gear or something, does the shifter's natural "lock" function, or is it disabled?

The shifter has to be pressed down to go into gear. Once you are in gear say 1st, you can just move it up into any gear except reverse and park. Those 2 have to be pressed down to get into if I remember correctly. I haven't had a problem with mine.

Cool, that's what I wanted to know. I always wanted a different shifter for my Formula.

Thanks.
