clay bar help
clay bar help I did the claybar treatment and had some questions if I did it correctly. I used the Mothers kit and the spray that came with it. The clay seemed to glide very smoothly across the paint and very little grim was left on the bar. Did I use to much of the spray. I did the plastic bag test and it did seem to be working, I just thought there would be more stuff left on the clay.
Maybe just not many surface contaminents. I used the same kit, and used plenty of the lube that came w/ it. I really don't think you can use to much, just make sure it slides, and it is nice and smooth when you are done.
My bar had some dirt in it, especially after doing around the bumper.

Ditto. I use LOTS of spray. I ususally put a piece of cardboard under where I'm working to catch the runoff. Lots of detailer spray is good to insure you don't scratch the paint. If your claybar didn't pick up lots of junk, the paint must not have had too many enbedded contaminates to begin with.

The more QD (aka "spray") the better, its there to lube and make sure the clay bar doesn't scratch the surface. It is way worse to use too little. If you run out you can always buy more, if you dont use enough then you have to polish out the scratches.
If you see too much stuff if any at all, you cars' paint was in very bad shape. Lots if spray is needed, I almost used 3 bottles.

You can use regular water with the clay bar if you wanted to. As long as the surface is constantly being lubricated while claying you got nothing to worry about. Circular motions, constant lubrication, very little pressure, this is all you need to do to clay your car.
Thanks to all that have responded, This site is awsome. If you don't know just ask. Someone somewhere has gone thru the samething. Now that my car is nice and smooth, will that inprove my ET?
