Throwing SS Badges on a Z28, wrong or right
#441
I have a SS hood on my car and people call it a SS from that.. But I am always quick to correct them.. Its not a SS and I dont want people to say its a SS.. Im proud of my Z.

I bought my SS to use as a show car and don't drive it around like I would a Z, Thats how I look at it, SS is something to make all nice and shiny to show off and or sell. And a Z28 is the badass road car you kick *** in.

I have just spent the last 30 minutes of my life reading parts of this thread. I don't know why I am replying because it's 20+ pages now. No one is gonna read it. Anyway.
My friend and I had this same discussion a while back. He has a 95 Z28 and he put the rear wing and ZR1 wheels on it. He talked about the SS badging and I told him I thought it was a bad idea. We went round and round on it.
I don't think it's right. I guess mainly because I have a 00' Firehawk. Does it feel good to have a little nicer/different Firebird? Yes, I'm not going to lie about that. I personally thing SLP should have done more with the SS/Firehawk's. Beside's apperance mod's there isn't that big of difference. A hood? Wheels? Some stripes? SLP should have done more like GMMG did. There was a guy at my work that asked if my Firehawk was faster than a vette the same year. I said no not really. I hated saying it. But it's the truth. I see so many WS6's and Z28's in town thats why I bought the Hawk. If there was some poser that slapped a hood and some wheels on his car and said it was a Firehawk. That would rub me the wrong way.
But if you buy a hood, wing, wheels and exhaust mods to get it to SS status. You should have went ahead and spent the extra money to get a real one.
Now do you think we should slap some different stripes on it and call it a GMMG car? I bet most people would say no. Just like most Mustang guys would get pissed if you bought a GT and put Cobra emblems on it.
Lets not stop there. Let's take a V6 car, slap some **** on it and call it a Z28. I bet there would be some Z28 guys pissed about it. Probably some of the same that defend putting SS badges on their Z28's.
As you can see I have contradicted myself already.
I think some people are posers. I can bet everyone on here has a seen a Civic with a Type R badge on it, and everyone has called them a stupid ricer. You know what, you are doing the same thing they are. You want something, or to be a part of something but you either don't want to spend the extra money or can't.
Ask a guy that owns a Z06 and see what he thinks about slapping some wheels and side vents on a FRC, better yet a targa top!

I ahve the SS spoiler on my car but not the hood. I like the spoilers "flip" as opposed to the flat spoiler on the Z28. The stock flat spoiler just have that sport appearance to me, just my .02.

Personally, I think its fine. If you spend the extra money on rims, hood, spoiler and then paint, you've most likely spend what it cost for the original ss package on the vehicle. Im sure most have upgrade the exhaust and intake as well which is also included in the ss package. I see no problem with it at all. I mean if Chevy is coming out with ss cobalts and crap like that. I'd rather see camaro's running around with those emblems rather than toy cars like that. Just my opinion though. 99 percent of the time. People won't even know either way if its an actually ss or not.

Okay... I know everyone wants this thread to die, but this is an issue I have to speak about. SS Camaros are limited edition, NUMBERED cars! I personally think it is wrong to badge something that it is not, especially something like those. If your Camaro is a Z28, then make it the baddest-*** Z28 out there, but badge it what it is. Don't make it something it is not.
