Default painting chrome? alternatives?

is it possible to paint over chrome? or whats the best way to make something black that was chrome.

i have some rims that i want to paint, thanks all

I was told powdercoating was onyl about $50 a wheel but I have no first hand knowledge of it

From what I know about painting chrome, the paint won't stick for long without the surface being sanded to provide some bite for the paint, so sand it, than paint it. I'm not sure you'd want to do it, if you could find a plain non chrome plated substitute, I'd think that would work better

how about bead-blasting it, then painting with self-etch?

AFAIK you have to give the paint a "texture" for it to adhere to the surface, so if bead blasting/self etch primer will do that (and I think it will) then that should be sufficient

Find someone with painted, and trade for theirs. You might even be able to make a buck or two!
