None of the SS or WS6's came with Mobil 1 oil caps/badge. People put them on when they run Mobil in their car. Why would you put it on if you're not running the oil? Kinda retarded and pointless to me.

Ya as GETGONE said, I have a SS and don't have a Mobil 1 cap either. Also ya, curious why you would have the cap and not run Mobil 1? Would you put nitrous tanks in your car and not run the lines? Seems kind of pointless to me.

The Mobil 1 cap is actually a Corvette part (part #12555685). They come standard with Mobil 1, and they also come standard with the Mobil 1 cap. You can still get one straight from your local GM parts department too.

Why would you put the Mobil cap on if you are not even using Mobil oil

I believe I was one of the first ones that came up with this idea.....check the link below.

http://www.installuniversity.com/ins...filler_cap.htm

Note my name there?

Early in 2000, I had my car in for service and admired a Corvette sitting at the dealer with the hood open. I noticed the oil filler cap, and thought to myself, I wonder if I can get that thing ordered. So I went to the parts department and asked if they could look up the part number for the cap and order one for me. It came 2 days later, I screwed it on, took a picture of it, and posted it on LS1.com, along with a rather involved story including a candy bar....don't ask me...it's been a while. Before you know it, a bunch of people asked where I got it from so of course I replied with the part number. Just a few days later, my post was still alive and people were reporting that dealers have been telling them that the part was on back order. I went to my dealer and asked, and sure enough, the guy said "ever since you got that thing, people been asking for it".

So...don't think your pimp coz you got that oil cap only now.... 6 years after me!

I am the Mobil 1 oil cap pimp

I stole the idea from the gmmg blacbirds, which also have the cap, and i stole the plaque idea from them too, and yes i run just what the plaque says 5w-30.

If this was anything besides an appearance mod, I'd say go for it.

I'd one up everyone and say that I invented the Mobil 1 oil cap, but then I'd not be telling the truth

I agree--don't put it on your car unless you're pouring Mobil 1 into your engine.

Haha....but see, I am telling the truth! My name on the Install University website is pretty good proof, isn't it?

2000? SLP was doing plaques and caps on the 96+ SS cars but they were Castrol synthetic oil, not Mobil 1.

Yep, I remember seeing it there when I used to lurk around that site. It took me two caps to get one that was right. The first cap I bought was glued together the wrong way. The words were facing the wrong direction when the cap was installed (upside down if you were standing in front of the car). One of those strange deals....

I did that mod when I first got my car. I figured I had the mechanical aptitude, at that time, to tackle the install. Good job Manny!!

I think the way I first described the install was that it took two people, one to hold the oil cap in place while the other does donuts to tighten the cap down
