Default Question about hood and front quarter "inserts"

I am thinking of having the plastic inserts in the hood and behind the front wheel powdercoated, but I don't know if they will stand the heat required to "set" the powdercoat.

Has anybody tried this or does anybody know if this would be possible?

Thanks in advance!

Taco

There's a guy around here that painted his yellow with a rattle can a couple of years back. Must hold up pretty well ... unless he repainted secretly

You could always get some from muffinbuster on ebay though that are stainless

I have a friend who just got a powdercoating system and I was going to let him coat them both to help him out a little and give him some practice. They are spray painted now, silver, but it is starting to flake off so I just thought I would try PC.

Does anybody know if they will actually stand the heat, he said they will have to withstand 400 for several minutes. Sounds like they might warp at least, but I might go ahead and get some in the stock black and let him have a go at them just to see. If they do survive, great, if they don't, now we know!!!

Thanks for the help thought guys, I know y'all meant well!

You can't powder coat plastic. You can only powder coat metalic parts.

I spray painted mine a while ago, the first time I just sprayed them red with some rust oleum plastic paint, they looked good for a few months then started to fade pink.

So I took them off and resprayed them red , and put a few coats of clear over that, the clear has really done a good job of protecting it and they still look like the day I sprayed them!!

Powdercoating will destroy them.

yeh, powdercoating requires baking and an oven, plastic would melt.

Not to be rude... but I already knew that. I know they can withstand at least a couple hundred degrees, so I didn't know if 400 would be all that much of a stretch.

Thanks, I guess I will have to media blast the flaking silver off (will also give a good texture to spray on) and do them again, with clear!!!

Thanks again!
Taco

BTW, sharp ride and nice pic, Luna!

Media blast it would be the best... another thing you can give a shot if you are careful is take some Grafitti Remover (3M, I believe), spray it on there, wait until the finish starts to swell, and then remove it. Do one section at a time. Don't let it sit on there too long, or it will destroy the plastic and make sure you clean it very well with soap and water after you get done.
