Default Hood pins, a quick poll

Guys like them? Was reading the neon post a few back and how it started with the muscle but got jacked by the rice. What about hood pins? I think they're hot. What's your guys opinions? Post pics of ls1 that have them if you've seen any.

only on old school muscle does it appeal to me.

it wouldn't be bad though on a big cowl hood (93+ Camaro)

I think if it has hood pins it should be because it needs hood pins not for apperance, but to each his own.

they look like **** on anything other than old muscle cars and full out drag cars. it's not for looks it's so your hood doesn't fly off at a 140mph. so on a street driven car, nope no good. it's like the imports when running slicks in front and using front runners in the rear hahaha.

They are to cluttery looking. Deuz fasteners look much cleaner and smoother. Here's what my car looks like with pins, I'm switching to a Sunoco pin on with Deuz fasteners now.

You'll have to use your imagination for the nose & headlights.

Strictly Old School! Gotta keep in mind too that the hoods are SMC and they will flex. Hood Pins would do more damage than good in the long run.

When I bought my glasstech SS hood, they recommended that I use hood pins in addition to the stock latch hardware. I still haven't put any on and the hood seems to be holding up OK. If I ever do decide to put them on, I am going to have them painted the same color as the car so they don't stand out so much. I like them I guess, but not if they're not needed.

I like them if they are done right and are needed.

Here's my LT1 (which needed them because the hood was repaired and scared me, flew off once):

Here's my friend's LS1, his car needed them because he made the hood himself out of carbon fiber (if it looks familiar it's because Harwood copied it shortly after he won the SLP Day show):

My current LS1 does not have them but if the hood warranted it and it went with the car I'd do it.

You just have to choose the right hood pins as well. I went with the old Chevelle style for the LT1, he used the newer latch style and Zeus clips for the LS1.

If you buy a light weight bolt on hood you might need them to get the proper alinement for the hood other than that 70's style

Back in the day when hoods weren't as well made fit and finish wise I see a use on a full drag or race car same thing.

Street car I see no reason and if you need them from swapping hoods you bought a poorly made hood I've had cars with fiberglass and C/F hoods fit better then stock.

I think they look silly and if you need them on the street you got screwed buying a poorly fitting hood.

You don't understand what they are saying.

Some aftermarket hoods DO NOT HAVE the bracing required to make them strong enough to support struts and/or and hood latch.

The do not have it to make them LIGHTER and simply use hood pins to hold them down again making them MUCH LIGHTER without the bracing and hardware required otherwise.

I'm sorry I didn't explain my self too well, I left that part out but I see no reason to buy a hood without bracing for a latch.

I know some hoods don't I feel that it's a poor way to offer a hood for a street car. I've seen fiberglass and C/F hoods with bracing and still be quite light. Why anyone who drives daily or on the street at all would save 1 lb but use pins instead is kind of silly in my view.

I just feel they look tacky its just my view though.

In some cases (not all I agree there are some carbon fiber hoods with bracings that are pretty light) 50lbs. is a good reson.

I agree as well though, they have to be done right and be out of neccessity. Other wise it's kind of retarded.

i dont think it looks that good on a stock trans am or camaro hood. With a cowl hood yes, and my friend has 2 hood pins on his 5.0 mustang that i think look good. So i guess it all just depends on the hood/car to if it looks good or not.
