Window tint on tailights
I was wondering if using window tint on taillights instead of nightshades would work. I want to have the look of the nightshades without having to permanentely darken them. Just a cheap alternative to buying another set of taillights and using nightshades on those. Has anyone done this? Let me know what you think.

Pretty sure it won't work. tint won't comform easily to a small curved surface like that. Also to keep it from being damaged, it would need to be on the inside, and the inside isn't smooth. You might want to consider picking up an extra set to spray, so you could keep yours original.

Or you could use taillight covers like I have.
They are made by AutoVentShade (AVS) and are available at AutoZone for about $37. They arent availble in the store but they can order them for you at no additional cost (and they arrive at the store in about 3 days). I removed the "AVS" logos from mine using 3M Finesse-It II (its a fine-cut polishing compound).

Be careful about those taillight covers. I have them too and they melted my taillights because of all the heat getting trapped in there. Gonna have to buy new ones if I take the covers off now.

I'm with BanditTA; I have my markers done with tint and they came out nice. It was easy cause the rears are flat and the front is flat with a straight curve. The rears would be impossible because it is a compound curve. As Xtremespeed said, I'm going to get an extra set of covers for painting so I can continue too run my car and change them when neccessary; such as safety inspections which suck here in Hawaii.

i tinted my taillights with that static cling tine (it has no glue) you can get it at checkers or autozone for like $20 a strip. it is 20% and a pain in the *** to put on i hust a squiggi hair dryer to form to the shape some water and a razr. i will get some pics up when i get home. btw there is no problem with melting buy the top will start to bubble up and needs to be re hairdryed every maby 2 months. but it takes like 10 seconds. im going to try using tint with glue on it to stop the bubbling. ill keep you updated but picsshould be up in like 2 or 3 hours.

Quit being cheap asses and just do VHT or the REAL way with tinted clear. Window tint and cling tint? Common...how redneck and ricer are you guys? I think you can get NAPA to mix up any color paint you want in a aresol can. You can probably have them put some black in with clear and there you go. I was painting a set of wheels and had left over clear and mixed black in and sprayed my lights. They turned out nice but need a little wet sanding and buffing to be perfect.

Summit sells it for $12.95 per can. They charge $8.95 for handling though. Just order some other stuff with it and make it worth your while! Someone said either Pep Boys or Autozone sold it but I haven't seen it there. But then again I haven't really looked for it.

It's not that I wanted to be a cheap *** but more like I didn't want this to be a permanent thing. I wanted to see if it would be to my liking before I went and spend $60 dollars on taillights and another $15 for the nightshades and instead spend say maybe $15 for the tint. I don't like to mess with the stock parts, just in case I want to go back to stock. And besides I wouldn't be a redneck or a ricer. I'd be a beaner or a wetbag, but I was born in Cali. That's all.

go to hobby lobby and buy a can of model car spray tint. $5 for a can, you will need one or two. i put about 8 coats on my tail lights. if you dont like how they turn out just wetsand the spray tint off of them and shoot a coat of clear on it. you can buy clear coat at pepboys, engine enamel in clear color
