The red coil packs look good on almost any engine but I dont think they are good enough on your engine I would have painted them the same orange as everything else.

pulled each coil off, cleaned it with thinner, let dry, masked off the metal magnet thing part of each, as well as both electrical connections, and painted it all. good luck. I'll think about paintin them orange.

IMO, Go for orange or black on the coils and black or chrome on the rails.

I'm getting the "Corvette" C5 coil covers, leaving them black, painting "corvette" orange, and polishing the rail. I think it'll look sick as hell. I did the coils red to match the MSD 8.5 wires, i'll leave them as be for now, i'll see how it looks with the covers on. thx for input, thought id just post this as an appearance mod, thought painting the coils for most ppl would be pretty cool, seeing as F-bods didnt come with covers for them.

Still, that's a badass motor you've got going for yourself.

I know the water pump pulley will wear thru but I'm concern with the heat causing the color to dull out....

that looks awesome man but what kind of prep did you have to do before you started painting? and what kind of paint did you go with?

I bead-blasted the water pump to clean it, then did an etch primer on the water pump pulley, then Base/cleared using House of Kolors Cinnamon Pearl for the orange.. everything else I just cleaned and painted, I used acetone to de-grease everything. The coil packs were done with rust-oleum red, but if I did it again, itd be krylon fusion. I dont see the paint on the coils lasting forever, as is. We'll see.

Spraypaint = $5. MSD coil set = $600
And there is a reason for that - the MSD coils are not simply red as an appearance item. It is their sig. color for products. It would be nice if a $5 can of paint would make your stock coils perform as the MSD's

The rest of the painted items look great though - I would keep the coils black - the red just isn't working with the other color IMHO...

The red does make them look like MSD's, but I'd use another color. Bright silver Krylon Fusion would look great and match the shiny aluminum of the block, and break up the orange of the intake manifold/heads. oh, and about the tensioner, the paint/clear will come off where the belt contacts it, there's nothing you can do about that. You will have a black or silver ring on the surface of it, but it will still look good nonetheless.

I personally hate fuel rail covers. Especially on a motor as detailed as yours.

For 95% of people, the hp/$ gain of MSD ignition on a LS series engine is not worth it. There's nothing wrong with painting coils red, I think its a great appearance mod. It's not like anyone thinks that there's actually a performance gain, or i'm promoting a knock off item...

FRC's will be temporary, i'll smooth and paint some until I figure out a coil relocation solution and buy billet rails and valve covers.
