Point being that they were not originally intended for HID and say "not compatible with". What would be the weakness causing failure with these housings? If it's just the heat then I can vent it well and have no problems? How hot do these things get inside the housing?

Jason: Still going to flip, easiest thing to do, plus I've tried measuring all the different angles for a non-pop up and you would have to cut out a section of the front bumper just so you could get light on the ground.
93formto98ta: HIDs run at 35 watts and don't get all that hot. Hell I can stick my hand on my foglight housings and adjust them after they've been on for an hour!
What is the plastic that most auto manufact. are using to make their headlight housings? Where could we get it? ect? Since we all know that would work for a protective lens!

It actually says not compatible with HID?
I can't say for sure what would fail on them. I know certain projectors, like on the GMC Denali's, can't handle HID's. I can't remember if they over heat them or what, but something bad happened to them. I suppose you could get a HID bulb that fits and set it up in your garage and just leave it running and see what happens. Then you'll know. Other than that, I can't say.

As far as the clear outer part, they use Lexan as well, only it's vacuum formed and treated with a scratch resistant coating. Now you CAN buy lexan already coated, but the coating will not stand up to being heated and bent. Since I was going to shape the Lexan for my lights, I knew I couldn't use it. I never looked into finding a source, but I think you would need to order it from a plastics company. Your not going to find the coated stuff at a hardware store, plus I have no idea if it costs more or has to be bought in a large sheet.
