Clear coat problems

Clear coat problems When I bought my formula in october the clear coat on the hood was about half way gone, does anybody know what caused the clearcoat to peel? and are there any prevention steps i can take to prevent any more spreading of it.

Certain cars with certain colors had the problem from the factory. I'm not sure exactly what does it. Letting a car sit out in the sun and only washing it a few times a year is a great way to trash your clear. So wash it frequently, use good washes and waxes.

Its possible the hood could have been repainted and wasn't prepped properly , but ... you should be able to see an indication of that though.
there was a post here about someone taking a junkyard rear panel, and wet sanding it, and using only swirl remover on it, It looks great, It is here somewhere, I'll try to find it for you, this might be an option.

Only thing that you can do at this stage is get it repainted. If the clear is flaked off, the basecoat is compromised and just re-clearing it won't help. It is like cancer... it will just keep spreading.

Thanks for all you replies, I do think that a repaint will be in the future, luckily the only clear coat issues are with the hood. Thanks daryl2cb for the link, I might try that if I am feeling lucky.
I was doing some research and I heard that there was a manufacturing plant in California, because of the states strict environment rules GM had to use a different type of clear coat than in other states. This type of clear coat was new and had never been proved to work.
