I just bought tropi-care, still have't put it on yet. Swirl remover and polish for $20. Can't beat that...

I tried just about every shelf brand out there, then fell in love with Zaino when it first became popular. A couple of years ago I found about Menzerna polishes and love them. Spendy, but well worth the money. I also use Blackfire which I really like. Prep is everything.

At first I didn't really care for Zaino. But, it's starting to really grow on me. The more I use it, the better it gets!

Default Getting the swirls out of black

I did a new process this year over the winter. I used to let it sit all winter and wouldn't work on the finish until after I pulled it out in the spring. This year, I decided to work on it before I brought it out, so I would have as much time as I wanted without having to wash it in between drivings...

Started with a good wash on a nice day in January. Then, I hit the entire car, by hand, with Kit Scratch Remover in the yellow bottle -- yeah, the cheap *** stuff. I did it one small section of a panel at a time, so that it would take an entire evening for just one panel, and it worked really well. It TOOK OUT (not just hid) all swirls and scratches except the really deep stuff. My car's black, and it was power buffed before I bought it, so it had the horrible pervasive swirls in it since day one. This Kit stuff made it look like almost a new car. I followed up with Meguiars number 9 swirl remover and then 26 (I think) Hi Tech Yellow Wax, which is a fancy name for yellow wax.

The other trick I used -- which, strange as it sounds, I can attest that it worked for this black car -- was to use Kleenex instead of any other type of rag, towel, or applicator. Use a Kleenex for one small section to work in the Scratch Out, then a clean one to remove. The nice thing is, Kleenex are super cheap, and you always have a clean one.

The result is the best looking black paint job I've ever owned. I've given it the close-up incandescent test, the direct sunlight test, and the gas-station mercury vapor test, and it passed all with no swirls. You may prefer another wax or whatever, but I highly recommend the Kit Scratch Out for getting out those swirls. Here's a pic with some befores and afters. It's hard to capture just what your eye sees, but hopefully you get the idea. Also, the pics are all after the Kit Scratch Out alone, I still glazed and waxed it afterwards.

Now here's a man who knows how to post! He introduces his statements, gives factual information to backup his theories, and concludes with before/after pictures. I've learned something today, thanks to him. This is one of the best posts I've ever seen on ls1tech, and there should be more posts like his. No matter how many testimonials I hear from Zaino users, I still cannot judge how good they are from just "after" pictures. From these wonderful before/after shots, I now know that this method works, and I will try it for myself, worry-free!

If you want a setup, heres one of the worst jobs I encountered. I used the following process:

wash
Clay
3M Fine Cut compound
Meguiars #80 Speed Glaze
Meguiars #26 High Tech Yellow wax
All applied by a PC. No Klasse AIO on here

After

Intragration,

Excellent post. My car looks similar to that, and will be trying Scratch X. Hope I see similar results, that really smoothed out that clearcoat.
