IT depends on how long I go wiothout washing it. and the weather. Its noticable after only a day or 2 of driving. unless its raining then its noticable as soon as the rain settles. I think the carbon gets caught by the water as it falls back onto my car.

I am sure there is a little...but mega-black soot is not good by any measure. If it occurs in 24 hours, something is burning... you gotta remember, these are computer controlled,if its in fair tune,it shouldn't really burn much at all...although cats do help...

so about how long should it take for this buildup to occur if everthing is running smooth. I just washed my car for the first time in a while today so I can measure from here on.

I didnt so much remove the cats as I did not want to spend another $300 for a catted Y-pipe when I got my Long Tube Headers. But I do hear it frees up a horsepower or 2.

Well, and this is all personal preference, I hate the raspy sound it can create with certain catbacks when you remove the cats. I have the hooker catback however, which totally removes that raspy sound.

Not on the bumper cover, but I've get soot on the Corsa knock-off tips I have. I end up with black on the flared inside part of the tips by the end of every drive.

Of course I also have a 236/236 112 that is tuned a bit rich. ~Joshua

I have this issue as well. Some black soot gets built up above the exhaust tip which I take some swirl cutter to take right off. Doesnt happen all that often to where its noticeable, but the weather makes a difference.
