when I am forced to use it in the sun, I take a microfiber, soaked in water, and lay it on the surface for a few minutes .. it will pull all the heat out of the metal, and give you time to work the product.. since you only work a small area at a time, you can use this process .. the key here is not letting the product dry .. if it dries, it won't work, and will be a pain to remove .. if that happens .. a little QD on a polishing pad will pull it right off.

Oh yes.. if this stuff dries on the surface.. you will have hell removing it.

I played around with some ScratchX by machine last night.. while it did work I had to use a LOT of ScratchX because if you dont it dries while using. It just doesnt have the lubricants needed to use with a machine. ScratchX is deffinately a product you want to remove before it dries, unlike many last step waxes which must dry to a haze first.

ScratchX will work on bigger scratches.. you just have to work that one scratch a few times. Ive removed some pretty knarly scratches but it took 10 minutes for one scratch and many tries.

By machine I recommend #83 and #80 for removing most swirls.

Heres a post I made on another site, Meguiars online... not sure if you have to be a reg user but check this out. I did this last night.

You know.. its funny you mention #82.. I was pricing that stuff on monday through one of my vendors and was doing some reading about it on the Meguiars forums. Deffinately need to add some to the collection.

I was pleased with scratch x, it did a fairly good job on the scratches, but did excellent on oxidation.

If I have a hairline scratch, Scratch X works great for me by hand. But as far as swirls go, don't bother and get yourself a PC and some polish.

Mine's had swirls on the hood since new, like a bad machine polish job. Did the ScratchX, it looked like it worked, at first, but then after a week or so the fillers dried out and the swirls were back not fixed at all.

That was my impression of scratch-X . I used it once and its sat ever since . Dont be looking for a miracle with this stuff , if want results ya still gotta work for it If your sticking with commercial products u can buy at the auto parts store .....Mothers clay bar( meguires clay is completely worthless) , meguires swirl remover in the tan bottle and eagle nanowax used together has impressed me for store bought stuff . I did a 96 camaro SS , lexus LS430 and a Escalade last week with that combo and was able to get nearly all the fine swirls out .

Scratch X worked very well on my 06 Grand Prix. The car was a rental, and had quite a few minor scratches on it. I used scratch on on almost all of them, and if it didn't completely cover the scratch, then it got rid of most of it. Maybe it's because my car is white that it worked so well, or maybe the scratches weren't very bad, but it definitely worked for me.

Biggest waste of money ive ever spent. On a black car you can really see that it does nothing.
