Default How many people do this????

I've now seen it mentioned in one thread and have seen it in a video. How many of you apply your wax by hand on your cars? I've always applied it with a microfiber pad but now wondering if using your hands would be a better choice? My pads seem to wear down pretty quickly and if I can save some money by just using my hands, then I'm all about it.

What kind of wax do you use that you can apply it by hand? I see that some is available in a can, so I assume thats like a "wax" and what your talking about.

You know, whenever I hear someone say they apply wax "by hand".... I have always just assumed they meant not with a machine.

I think most people use fresh applicator pads/microfibers instead of smearing it out with your bare fingers.... but maybe I'm way off base.

I wouldn't risk it. No matter how much you washed them, your hands will still produce a lot of oils, and that leads to fingerprints. I'll stick with microfiber applicators.

Zymol is actually instructed to be put on by your bare hands, even in the videos.

I'm guessing that's best suited for the paste waxes. I'll try it someday on a small area and see how it goes. In that video where the guy charges like 5k for a car wash he does it by hand, so it might have it's benefits.

You have to put it on very thin by hand... simply put.. unless you are that detailer nut waxing an enzo.. stick to the pads and don't have chapped hands

Like I said, I just noticed it and asked if there were any benefits to doing it. Looks like I'll stick to the pads.

Hehe funny thread. Zymol is applied that way because the warmth from your hands is supposed to speed up the enzyme in the wax to cause it to stick to the paint ( i think ). Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I've always applied carnuba wax by hand, Its how my grand-father taught me. Now I use NXT and use a microfiber pad.

The skin on your hands has alot of natural oils that your body produces, I wouldn't apply anything w/ just your fingers, it's not good to mix that wax w/ your body oils. Use a 100% cotton applicator pad( 4 -5 inch works great ) or a micro fiber towel, make sure to fold the towel to a new section if to much polish/wax builds up. Detailing cars is my 2nd job, have been doing it since I was 15 yrs old, now I'm 30.....so I've been at it for some time now.

Most of those oils get sucked out of your hands while washing the car anyway...I'm just saying it never really made a difference to me it looks the same regarless if I used carnuba or the NXT. Only reason I use NXT now is lack of the white dust when using carnuba.
Looks the same only I dont have to go over it a second time to get that white crap out of the cracks.
