Default redoing the interior

well since im a lowely E-3 and my cash flow is a tad limited at this point in tme till i finish my CDC's and can get a part time job, i opted to work on the show of the car for now. so i was thinking of doing my interior, and maybe the calipers, and a few small things. what I'm looking for is something nice and clean but something to call my own as far as interior goes. So heres my car info and question. Firstly, the car is red with a black top vert. i want to do the interior in black with a smidge or red. right now its that ugly charcoal color that i have no taste for. so the questions being these, who has used the dyes on carpet, and how well do they work, as well as does anyone have any suggestions as to which kind to use? and if i want to paint my interior panels black, which kind of paint do i want to use to give me best results, and do i need to put a clear coat on the panels or just leave them flat? i want this to look good and not half @$$ed. i dont want the paint cracking and peeling a while down the road. Ive heard to both sand and not sand the interior panels. dunno who to listen to though.

those are my questions. anyone willing to throw me some suggestions, I would appreciate it a bunch, im open to all ideas too. if anyone has pictures of their custom interior, that would be awsome too.

Thanks again and have a good night.

i've also done a lot of research regarding interior modifcation. to start off, sanding is definitely the best and only way to go, if u want it done right. i have not done any myself, so i cannot give any tips on how it should be done. anyway, is this car a camaro or firebird? ive seen a few camaros with nice interiors, but only a few firebirds that are nicely done. u can find some pictures throughout this site, and most of them are in a red/black color theme, as well.

its a trans am. I agree, camaros seem to always have the nicer set. but it could be due to the different interior. the dash is a little different and gives you more Custom design. I dont plan on going hog wild on the red. just little things to accent it, butthe rest of the interior is going to be black, have to find me some nice seats too, or a place that will reapholster(i spelled that so wrong). thanks for the heads up on sanding, im gonna take them out tommorow and get cracking on sanding. hopefully i will have some of it done by the end of the weekend.

I can only help you with this question. I am currently painting all the panels in my `hawk. I am using laquer mixed at the paint shop and Bulldog adhesive promoter (a must!!!!). I cleaned them with Simple Green cleaner, then wetsanded with 800 grit, then cleaned them with rubbing alcohol (91%). After they were dry, I sprayed them with the adhesive promoter, waited 20 minutes, then sprayed with several coats of color laquer. I have no plans to clear coat.
I am almost finished all the panels and it looks like factory! It is also next to impossible to scratch the paint off.
