Default My Camaro's New Odometer

Just did it tonight, the black & white looks SOOO much better than the shitty red and blends in perfectly with my other stuff.

I took many many pics of doing it so if people want a writeup I'll work on it

Note that this is different than the way you have to do it in a TA as far as I can tell from the Appearance Hall of Fame.

Hey I like that! How'd you do it? I've never liked the original color, doesn't fit with the Chevy color light scheme in the interior.

If enough people bug me I'll edit the pics and stuff to show in detail, but basically you just need to take your gauge cluster apart, take the red backing off the LCD, replace it with white backing, change lightbulb to LED (I used 40,000 mcd ones), put it back together

I'd be interested in a write-up. Looks good.

I thought LS1_SS already did a write up, and i thought he was the one that originally did it.

If you look in the original post you'll see that I said it wasn't the same as that. This requires no soldering of LEDs onto the circuit board, I guess the Camaros were designed differently.

I have a 1998 though, maybe they were made differently than every other year?

It might be tinted slightly blue because the LED I used is 40,000mcd white, and those always seem to have a really slight blue tint. But mostly in person it looks black/white.

I'll try to get a writeup as soon as I can for the rest of you guys

98's do have a different cluster but I don't see how the procedure would change. And the write up was done in a Camaro, but the Firebird's odometer is the exact same procedure.

Like I just said, this requires absolutely no soldering so

It's like you guys are in denial that it is different on my car.

If you want it just like mine do 40,000 MCD white LEDs, mine are rated at 3.4-3.6v and 20mA. You can get them on ebay. You will only need 1 to replace the bulb that was shining on the odometer backing so you don't get a yellow tint to it. You could use whatever color LED/Bulb you want though, it's very easy.

Sorry if it came off that way, not my intentions at all. Looks good though!
