Default !Wire Mod done, and then...

Well I did the !wire mod today. Got everything done and the wires routed in the wheel well and everything was coming along pretty well (broke a ground terminal, but that's par for the course). Just before I started tying and taping the wires up to velcro them in place and before putting the wheel well cover back in I decided to see how much clearance I'd have with the weight on the wheels. I know this mod has been done alot, but I have Sportlines on my front and clearance is marginal. Once I put the wheels back on and dropped the car onto the ramps I discovered there is no room for the wires in the wheel well without taking a chance they'd get pinched or chafed.

So, I took everything back apart and routed the wires back to the top. Re-aranged things up there (looks alot better than it did), but no !wire mod for me. Bummer!

try and get a rubber grommet that will fit the hole. is the hole in the front or rear of the wheel well thing... if its in the front, where its easily visible when opening the hood, just put a sticker there or something lol

Brian, thanks, but I'm keeping the car just how it is.

NBMGreg, it is in the rear. Not too visible. I put clear tape over it on top and a large piece of black velcro on the bottom. Didn't loo too bad last eveining, but I'll see it in better lite this morning.

When I did my wire mod, I lengthened all the wires by 1.5 feet to get enough slack to hold them flush with the metal inner fenderwell. I also drilled my hole further back and closer to the firewall than what the "how-to" guide says, so I'm sure that had a little bit to do with why I needed more slack, but even if I would have drilled it in the suggested spot I still would've needed a little more length. Manufacturing variances probably suggest that we don't all have exactly the same length of wiring harness to work with, so you have to adapt where needed. Don't be afraid to cut and splice your wires to make them longer: it's tedious, but it doesn't affect functionality at all. (At least in my case it didn't.)

The way I've got it done now looks better than stock. I think I'm done playing the !wire mod game. lol Thanks for the advice though.

Z28CTYHNTR, the wheels are 16s and I've got 245/50s on front and 255/55s on the rear.

damn man, get rid of those 50's and 55's and get some low profile tires! This may help out just a bit!

Holy crap man those are some meaty tires you got on there, might be part of your problem. I noticed in your picture they looked pretty puffy. Dont get me wrong though, I like the look, just saying it might be your problem.

I don't think it's the tires. The front are stock size. I think it's because of the drop (2 inches+ in front). I really like the rake AND the look of my car. Not changing the tires, but thanks.

No room for the wires? Mine fit up above the plastic liner. Do yours not fit up there? Do you not have the plastic liner? I dont understand what you mean by there is no room.
